Ooh I think I might have picked the bran one up and then put it back as it was more expensive than getting a 500g bag. Was disappointed there wasn't a Basics porridge to choose from too.

I like having strawberry jam or honey on mine, yet to try golden syrup but have some in the store cupboard so a variety on tap. Central heating for big kids :D

We had those in our first house....we had a Victorian terrace with cellars and open fires......how I wish we'd never moved!!! (well, until I remember what it was like having students for neighbours!!!) If ever we move (downsize) from here, an open fire is top of my wishlist!!! We could have a log burner fitted here (though would mean reinstating a chimney breast in our bedroom, so not a cheap option) but no open fire.....would LOVE a log burner, but realistically, it's bottom of the wish list!

Have you got a traditional/privately owned chemist near you? Our little one sells them for about £4! Worth a look if you do x

We do but I haven't had a chance to check it - I'm out to work before it opens and it's shut when I finish! I'm not working on Friday though so will check then - thanks for the suggestion :D

Ooh Matalan sale was doing the faux fur covered ones we have for half price at £3. They are good too - we have one each as I knew I'd be envious :rotfl: I put DS's in his Xmas stocking - he was chuffed!

My last house was a Victorian semi with lovely open fire places including upstairs (funny they all had candles in!) - would have been ripe for a log burner or 2. Shame about the leaky roof, the freezing cold original suspended wooden floors (very nicely stripped though), the constantly blocked up outside drain and the lathe and plaster walls that needed redoing and the rising damp in the kitchen under the original quarry tile floor. Ahh, I remember the days and why I moved to a modern house! :D

Here are the results of my candle comparison test I have been conducting since Christmas :D

The White Company - beautiful Bergamot and something scented candle in a glass - cost £20 (as the price tag was still on the box)

    versus

Matalan Pillar candle - cream, unscented, but 3 times the height and states 90 hrs burning time - cost £2.50 as I chose it and my DB bought it as part of my Christmas gift.

Yes, you've probably guessed the Matalan one is only half way down and The White House one is just flickering to it's death. :(

I therefore conclude that for cost per burning hour, the winner is the Matalan 90 hr £2.50 candle. :D

The White House candle smells (smelt) divine compared to no scent of the Pillar - so the winner in this category is The White Company. However, other scented candles and brands are available for alot less than this - including Wilkinsons £1 (sale half price) Rustic medium pillar candle which is yet to be tested.

Currently on test are some dinner candles, but I can't remember where they are from, but they are burning quite slowly :rotfl: The Dunelm ones were very good, lasting two evenings (and approx 8 hrs each) - 10 for £2.29 they've also been the most reasonably priced ones I've found. This test continues....a full report on dinner candles will be submitted at the end of the test (I have 2 more packs of other dinner candles - it could take a while) :D

I wonder if Which? would be interested. :rotfl:
