No snow here, a gorgeous day though with sunshine and icy first thing.

What a fab gift of the laptop Alex :T . We were down at PC W0rld for opening time and unbelievably, I missed one trick which has solved it. So £50 later  it's up and running again but back on it's original Windows 8 - which worked really well for DS until the Updates automatically upgraded him to 8.1. There were some bugs in the updates and I think those were probably the issue. I'd used lots of online resources to work things out, so we were 99% there. At least it's not the hard drive.

The coffee spillage back from the summer needs fixing really (a couple of buttons not working as they should) and we could have left the laptop for them to do that, but DS was impatient and wanted it back, so he's agreed for it to go back in (another £50 though) when we go on holiday at the end of March. He is going to pay for that one himself.

A clean install of 8.1 should work well so your laptop Alex should be fine - and indeed, very fast :D

I'm still working on DS's laptop  As it's been restored to 15 months ago, there were a ton of updates to download and install and we've also made the decision to upgrade it back to 8.1 again. Now at the stage of defragmenting and optimising the hard drive for performance - fingers crossed it will all be sorted soon and DS can happily Skype his school friends and play his games. He has managed to write one more thank you letter :D

It's dead time watching the % creep up, so I've managed to do a few more jobs off my list. 9) Garden clear up after the dogs and some moss from the roof tiles, 10) Batch of Cottage Pies (one in the oven crisping the top for dinner tonight and 11) Sorting/tidying bedroom clothes - drawers all done, just leaves the 2 wardrobes, so will finish that off tonight.

Nothing to report on the financials really - though I've done my usual checks there's little change.

We've still got quite a bit of snow, though it is starting to melt and the roads are very icy as a result.

The laptop is fantastic but I'm hoping you're right about the Windows 8.1 which is taking a while to get used to without any glitches. I do wonder where technology will go to next as it's quite scary just how quickly computers have progressed, exciting too if you're one of the people developing such items.

Hope you've got your son's laptop sorted. :)

Hang the flags out, DS and his laptop fully reunited and working as it should :j

Yet to finish off clothes sorting as friends popped round and it was cups of tea and catching up instead.

Alex - it's horrible when the leftover snow/slush goes icy, take good care even in the Landie.

Glad to hear your son has been reunited with the laptop. :)

Yes, the ice is certainly not a lot of fun. We're forecast 2-3 days of freezing fog which will make conditions worse. Whilst a Land Rover may get you going in such weather, it isn't a particularly good idea to take it ice skating unnecessarily.

    Afternoon Diary,

I'm like a stuck record on the health front so feel free to ignore me today :rotfl:. Just not feeling well again, even though no stress and no work and no deadlines for anything.

Fortunately it was my GP appointment this morning and she's happily referring me to Kings in London for a second opinion on the scan and my symptoms. I am very grateful for her support :j though nothing new on meds or what else I can do to help myself. Back to see her in 2 weeks.

Child Benefit arrived in the bank account this morning, so I've done a TT of £3.00 to the Savings Pot and that's up to £62.11.

A few things I need to do today - a mini food shop as we're almost out of some staples like milk and bread, - pop into the office en route just to check all ok there and take clean tea-towels and bits in, and - collect a belated Christmas present (it's digital kitchen scales so am very excited about that).

Planning to finish off my clothes sort out tonight and then a pamper myself session. :)

The days are running away so quickly  DS has now decided he wants a shorter hair cut, he also wants to take his many book tokens to town to spend and we've still not made it to the cinema. Either I'm getting slow or time is going faster!

Hope everyone is having a good day and taking care if going out - very icy here today but another glorious sunny one. :)

Food shop done and a spend of £13.29. Total for December came in at £146.60 - the only month I've been on target this half of the year bizarrely, but then I did use alot of Nectar points for the lunches.

I'll do a total for the year and see if I can bring 2015 under that. Might be tricky as prices tend to get raised 1st January, infact peanuts in Ald! have already gone up by 10p a bag to 48p  and DS sometimes likes those instead of the 30p bar of choc as his treat.

One wardrobe sorted through - I've moved some items to the spare room wardrobe and the items I don't wear in 2015 will be sent to the Charity Shop. I've got one bag ready to donate as well and the other wardrobe left to go through.

Dinner is out of freezer stocks.

More things planned for this evening and hopefully I'll have achieved the clothes sort out and can cross it off my list. :D

  • I'm really enjoying the declutter. Thinking of moving my glass shelf unit into the kitchen for my pans. I have a pan stand at the moment but it's a bit cranky and not really big enough. I could them put the bookcase from the spare room in its place and load it up with my cookbooks from the kitchen plus the paperwork. Leaving more room in the spareroom for DDs homework and my sewing stuff.
