I think there are new ones out too that will give a wider choice. I did look at it in Currys the other day and didn't really like the idea of battries running the keyboard

I took her to Currys today so she could play around with a few things. She thinks 11.6" is the best size. How about the Asus S200? If I go that route, should I just get windoze 8 or is 8.1 likely to be available on it soon? (or is there a free upgrade?)

If you use windows 8 (or 8.1) then the new interface is best with touchscreen. A detachable keyboard would be good (on the sofa - but cannot have everything!).

You've got 2 years to upgrade from 8 -> 8.1 and I found it quite time-consuming but if you get 8 probably best to set aside an hour (or 2) and do it straight away. Its free.

EDIT: which asus s200 exactly?

Months back was looking for lightweight and really liked the look of the Asus S200. (I too thought around 13-14", but ended up with 11.6" as realized that would be just ideal).

Thanks. I can't help thinking the Asus ones with an i3 processor are probably the better buys
