How to fall in love with saving money

That's a little bit disheartening that you won't be able to save as much this month, but theres always going to be months that we can save more than others.
Last month was my month for sure, don't think I'll be beating that for quite some time!
Looks like you've got some good plans with the books and food spend reduction- it's all for the greater good!
I just added £120 to my savings today taking me to £1300. Nice round numberfeeling positive for my savings futures
I wish I'd caught the savings big earlier too- I've waited far too long to sort myself out. We're in a good financial position really, but just spending as much as we earned for far too long!CC1: £4481.14/ £5031.14 (12% paid off, £600) | CC2:£3307/ £3807 (14.4% paid off, £550) | Loan: £10,528.20/ £15,792.30((33% paid off, £5,264))
July debt total: £24,630.44 | New debt total: £18,316.34 | Total debt paid: £6,414.10 (26%)

Well done on the latest savings, JoJoCI'm not in an absolutely terrible position either, just could be in a much better one, and wishing I hadn't overspent all those years. But it can't be helped now

How did you manage to spend over 8 quid on books when you joined the challenge lol.
Anyway, MSE news for last few days. Coming home we split a club sandwich at LGW so saved 9 quid. Didn't buy a drink on connecting flight home- had my money out but they only had diet pepsi and I drink coke lol.
Dinner last night I had the stuff in from before I went, so only had to buy a baguette for 90p. Pork chops in garlic/parsley/wine and roasted baby toms.
Tonite is leftovers from the freezer (Osso Bucco). Which is slightly repetitive because the dinner sunday was:
At Mantel, a small restaurant in the Le Suquet section of Cannes. It was 37 euros for amuse bouch (!!!!aladiere) starter was Risotto with baby artichokes, followed by Osso Bucco (oops) and a tarte aux framboises for dessert. Tiny choc chip cookies for afters (took thse fro flight home lol as was stuffed as a tick. OH had Salmon ravioli in shellfish bisque sauce, baby rabbit roast en cocotte with veg, and a raspberry pannacotta for pud.
One bottle of Cotes du rhone. Aperitifs were one Kir vin blanc, and one bierre.
What a hoot, I can see MSE took the first 4 letters out of my Nicoise onion tarte lol.0 -
Your trip sounds amazing atush! when people go abroad, the first thing I ask about is the food!
£5 in the £ tin today.

atush, the food sounds absolutely gorgeous, yum. I love French food and if you can get it in an MSE way, all the better. Was the pannacotta good? I love a good pannacotta but have had some that have just been done wrong by the restaurant (it should "tremble" when poked, I've had some that were rock solid, one flavoured with lavendar, very bad idea - enough said about that.) That's weird about the ****aladiere - I thought you'd done that yourself!!
I spend £8 because my last fling before joining the challenge was to buy an atlasI've wanted one for absolutely ages. That's it for the rest of this year, unless I get rid of some books (those being the rules).
JoJoC, well done on the £5, btwIt all adds up nicely
I'm not very well today, feeling feverish, got a cough, rather dehydrated, am taking myself off to bed. Night all!!0 -
Morning all. Well in addition to joining the book challenge (and I've already been sorely tempted to break my pledge this morning twice), I've decided I'm going to undertake a three-month stint off alcohol: https://www.hellosundaymorning.org. I need to lose weight, get fitter, look after my health better and save money, so, that's the first step in the new plan.0

It's a great thing to do, if anyone out there wants to look into it. I should emphasise I don't drink outrageous amounts, just regular, and it's not a good habit to have.
Now. Re my book challenge. I really do want two new books so I have to get rid of two old ones. How am I going to do that then? Or maybe I should just go back to bed and get better ... I felt very woozy last night, better this morning after a solid sleep, but not out of the woods.
How is everyone else out there this morning? What MSE things are you all planning to do today? ...0 -
If you read them then sell them on amazon does that count lol? what if you read them then give them to a charity shop?
Anyway, good thing I didn't join the book challenge. As I spent 15 of my 40 quid amazon voucher on a Spatzle maker. What is spatzle I hear you ask? A small dumpling pasta that is loverly. you get them in places like swizerland an austria- it is mountain pasta lol. I ran out of my last box of dried Maggi Spaztle and can't find more.
Waitrose (if you have one nearby- we don't) has something very similar from the italian side of the alps, gnoccachetti which is more or less the same. Not gnocci as that is made from spuds. I am american, and we have a wide range of ethnic foods around us from all types of immigrants.
As for the pannacotta, I didn't try it as I was far too stuffed. It looked good, and had a very small layer of choc under the berries. He said it was very nice.0 -
atush, have come across spatzle but not tried it. It has always sounded very nice.
Giving them away does count. I don't really have a charity shop near me though but am sure I could track one down. I am quite sure I have some books I could afford to get rid of - it would take me years to read all my books.0 -
Thanks, atush. How weird!! ...0
