One day I am going to find the time to read the whole of this thread!
As a completely irresponsible spendthrift who will be coming into a substantial sum of money soon, I really need the inspiration.
Or a manager.....ENFP - AssertiveOfficially in a clique of idiotsSmoke me a kipper; I'll be back for breakfast0 -
I am enjoying the talk of exercise
My job is quite physical so all i do on top of that work is walking. I do really enjoy walking, although that sounds boring
I used to go the the gym daily, but i never have the time now.0 -

Get yourself and your budget started now, and stick to it BEFORE the money comes in or you will most likely go back to your bad old ways lol.0 -
I forgot to say, Eco Miser, if you happen to be reading the thread, that my over-budget spend includes more than food - it also includes (this month) quite a lot of laundry and cleaning stuff - so while it's still extravagant it's not perhaps quite as extravagant as it seems.0

Flick216, I have honestly managed to curb my ways so who knows, reading the thread may provide you with some food for thought? It has certainly given me plenty to think about and a good many people have kindly contributed their thoughts to it. Agreed with atush, wise to set a budget now - a substantial sum could become a really good investment for your future
Congratulations too, btw

WantToBeSE, I really enjoy walking too and do about three miles every day to and from work - it's little enough probably but certainly better than nothing. I used to love the gym too but am struggling to motivate myself now.0 -

Congratulations on your good fortune, and I hope it was not through a loved one's misfortune.
If the sum is substantial enough, you won't need to actually scrimp and save, but you do need to learn the virtues of thrift and responsibility; of living to a budget, of making your money work for you, of not frittering it away on impulse buys.
Don't get me wrong, if you want something, then if you can afford it from your budget for such things (not from your total fortune), and you really want it, get it.
Meantime, start a spending diary, and find out what those spendthrift ways are costing you, and where the money is going.Eco Miser

Of course I'm reading the thread.I get emails about it, so even if I miss for a few days, I'll catch up eventually.
So you've got laundry and cleaning stuff budgeted as food?
Unusual, but whatever ...
So maybe your actual food spending was within budget, which is much better.Eco Miser

oh good, Eco Miser, glad you're reading
It's kind of a "food and household budget" I guess, and I'm still not within it in that £200 is for the whole lot and I have gone over that amount. But I semi-bulk-bought a few things this month so won't need so much cleaning stuff next month, so should keep to budget next month - famous last words
I am getting closer to keeping within budget every month, too
One month soon I'll hit target. ...

I don't live in a bungalow, mark88man, and could make use of my stairs every day when it comes to getting exercise. Always been crap at climbing stairs, in fact, for some reason ... very slow at it, both going up (when tired) and when coming down (first thing in the morning) so it might not do me any harm to put in some practice and work the muscles concerned.
I took up this bright idea once- and found that I was wearing out my stair Carpet!!! so had to stop as I would have to change the carpet on the hall and stairs (very large house). A gym is cheaper lol.0
