It feels great to be saving.
Actually, you know, it does
For me, that's progress0 -
Another very minor saving - I found £6.70 had been transferred into my current account from something, so that can go across to the pot too.
Savings building up0 -
Anyway, re this freezing winter we're about to head into, I have looked into secondary glazing and it seems to be a good option, though probably not that cheap if I get it done properly. I'd have to get some quotes. I need to look into the cost of getting double-glazing too ... I was quoted £30 grand, but maybe it's worth it if I stagger the cost over, say, three to five years? ... Secondary glazing can be done with Crittalls though ... I had thought that would be hard but it is okay, apparently.
Cold today. I'll get some quotes next week.0 -
Iv definitely got the bug, in love with saving just now. Saving target of 2013 looks like it will be a success as invested £9,000, £2,000 overpayment to mortgage and looks like il have £5,000ish in bank by year end so £15k goal smashed! Didn't really get going with it until the second half of the year by April May time I still felt I was wasting a lot of money that I couldn't account for.
Cold weather kicking in and as temperature drops, so does my income. Hopefully not by too much though as iv got even more saving to do come 2014. By end of 2013 if I end up with at least £4,000 then il try to get £16,000 minimum saved by end of November 2014 so total of £20k in savings and will use Decembers pay for overpaying mortgage again
Having a frugal weekend, stripping woodchip and wallpaper as decorator coming in next week....which is usually followed by a new carpetwill be worth it when it's done as it's my money I'm spending, not borrowed income. Hoping today passes quickly though busy evening then early night planned.

You could stagger the cost by doing different rooms. Do the lounge and master bed first, as you spend the most time there?
Can you use the cheap plastic kind of Secondary for the other rooms (ie the type with the hairdryer)? You don't want to use the more expensive kind of secondary if you are going to double glaze in future.0 -
Told you, I could tell just from reading the thread the other day you attitude has changed (or changed back to the way you used to be lol).
ha ha yes, my feelings on the matter have changed.I knew it would if I came back to MSE and I was right, hanging out with you lot has changed me
Which is good, better than good, it's great :beer::beer:

Yes, I should think about staggering the double glazing. It's probably sensible - I suspect the way we're going that there's only going to be more and more emphasis on saving energy/fossil fuels, so it makes sense to think about more permanent measures, not to mention the savings.0 -
