You are right - if I'm sleeping I'm not spending!! I'm thinking I should sleep as much as I can now as in a few weeks its all going to change when the bubs arrives...... :);)

Pffft - tough month this! And still another week until payday and the next rent. We are living off fresh air whilst still trying to feed DS a full and balanced diet and keep me in enough food to satisfy this pregnancy (no mean feat ;)) but I am being inventive with food and so far it is going down well with everyone.

I think payday will bring a small bit of relief, ie we can buy food, but I can't lose sight of the fact we've got a few big outgoings in Feb and March which will mean we are very slow on the debtbusting. This is frustrating but I just have to suck it up and accept that that's how it is and focus on what I can do.

One small ray of hope of improvement is that it has been hinted that DH will be getting some sort of payrise soon, above the cost of living rise that the company is giving. We are trying not to get our hopes up but obviously this would be a godsend if it were to happen. Knowing his company, he'll either be told at the start of next week or on the last day of March, so watch this space :) The flipside is that this coincides with him having to move into a role that he is much less interested in, but rather good at, so the extra money would be a real sweetner. Here's hoping!!

The plan is to list some things on ebay tomorrow, and keep listing on GM. Its with a heavy heart that I'm listing my beloved books so that fact that none have sold yet isn't bothering me a bit :)

Enjoy the weekend everyone, happy debtbusting!!

Well after yesterdays slightly negative post - even if it didn't come across as all that negative I was feeling a bit that way, which isn't really like me at all - I have been in a reflective mood today.
We have literally run out of money now for the month, and we WILL need to buy a few more essentials such as milk before the payday on Friday. I will have to access my OD for this which I usually manage to leave well alone these days. It would be easy to get down or dwell on this, but after a chat with DH we have instead congratulated ourselves for the following:

    • It has been almost a 6 week pay month between DH's wages. This has meant more CC payments than usual going out from one months wage, more fuel, more food etc. Despite this, the CC's have not been hit at all to fund it :j
    • In the Dec-Jan pay month, we have had unexpected outgoings in the form of boiler breakdowns and issues with the rental house, and have also paid for the first ever term of DS's nursery, again without hitting the CC's :j
    • Getting ever more inventive with the food situation - some of the meals I've come up with this week have defied description yet have been both healthy and edible, yay!! :j
    • Despite our complete exhaustion for a variety of reasons, we have resisted the urge to order a sneaky takeaway on several occasions :j The fact that we can't afford it wouldn't have stopped us in the past.
    • We are still speaking!!! Although it is very stressful at times, we are managing to be open and honest when talking about money, and are holding each other up when we get down about things :j
So overall, go us!! This is sooooo much to be proud of ourselves for and has made me feel so much more positive again. Now, all we need to do is make it through the week and then roll on February and more spreadsheets/notepads!!

Small steps this week - anything to fill the loooooong wait till payday!! Its really not that I'm feeling down about January or anything, I do like winter with its cosy nights, I just honestly can't believe how long this month has felt like :) Anyway, one day to rent (fingers crossed) and two days to payday. In the meantime, I have done the following:

    • Found all the DS's baby clothes and washed everything up to 6 months, last load is drying on the racks now. We have PLENTY, the plan is now where to store them, that's a job for the weekend when DH is about.

    • Sorted through my clothes and filled a bag for c*sh 4 clothes, I've never done this before so no idea what I'll get but every little bit helps :)

    • Started creating an £bay box with everything I have come across while digging out things, there are a few things to stick on there so I will do that this weekend. I've been inspired by the selling diaries on here so I must get that done before baby arrives or it won't happen for ages.

    • Eked out the food - today is the absolute final day of using up stuff I hope, if the rent doesn't come in tomorrow we might be really stuck. However, DH is more inventive than me so I'll get him to look at the cupboards tonight to create a back up plan :)
So all in all the last few days have been quite productive which does make me feel more positive. And I am trying to ignore The Fear about the rent tomorrow. I'm meeting with DH tonight for this week's financial update so the productivity continues!! Right, DS is currently having a very unexpected nap so I'd better go and wake him up so he still goes to bed tonight, although the temptation is to let him sleep so I can browse here some more.... ;)

    Sounds like you're rally productive!!

Ooh you may regret that Pippi - I'll defo be asking when we get stuck as there are a lot of clever cooking types on here (I include you in that!!) who I'm sure could sort me out :) Happily, we've got all the stuff for carrot and lentil soup so I think I'll make that regardless of rent as its yummy!!!

Meeting with DH postponed until tomorrow as he's got work to do, so I'm doing surveys while watching The Jump - worryingly easy watching!! We should know by the end of the week whether his change of role involves a pay rise, we're reeeeeaaally trying not to get our hopes up but its hard not to given our current situation.

Right, I'm off to bed for hopefully plenty of sleep to attack the day tomorrow :):):)

Rents in!!! :j :j :j The Fear is bigger than normal during January as historically things have always gone t!ts up during this month with the rental, so to get through unscathed is a HUGE relief :) However this doesn't lull me into a false sense of security for the rest of the year, as I've learned if I relax about it for 10 seconds then something tends to happen with it....

Met with (grumpy and tired) DH tonight to discuss finance. We have planned baby purchases for the month, savings towards the holiday balance (I know, I know, as if I would have booked a holiday at this stage in the game but its a family wedding so no choice really), and hopefully sorted out how to pay for DH's service and tyres. This doesn't feel like we're pushing forward hard with the debtbusting but its what the start of this year needs. Things will still be VERY tight with all other spends this month but at least there is cheese in the fridge!!! :)

What a day..... on the positive side its FINALLY payday!! So I'm about to transfer monies to different piggybanking accounts and book my train ticket to see my friends next weekend for lunch - the last time I'll be able to do that for aaaaages :) So that's exciting.

On the less positive side, DH is super stressed at the moment, I'm not sure I'd realised quite how stressed, with a lot of things and this all erupted this morning in a huge argument. Just after that, I had to leave DS at playgroup and he cried his eyes out for the first time, so I obviously felt like the worst parent in the world :( Me and DH have talked a bit since and we're fine, but the issues that led to this remain and will need some working through :( Part of it is the money stuff, and this is so worrying because we've only been hitting it hard for a couple of months so if he's not coping with it now then we might have some problems going forward. However I am hoping its a combination of work and the January difficulties and that his night out tonight with his friends will help him relax a bit. Ugh! Onwards and upwards, hopefully tomorrow will bring better things :)

  • Its February!!!!! :j:j:j Hurrah!!!

Had a lovely day yesterday with DH taking DS on a train and then a bus replacement service - normally I detest it when that happens but it just added to the fun for DS!! It was just a very small journey to our neighbouring village and back with a sneaky hot choc when we were there (celebrating getting to the end of Jan!) but he LOVED it :):) And an added bonus was that we weren't charged either for the train or bus - no sign of a conductor anywhere, hence why we treated ourselves to the hot choc (and because it was flippin freezing!!)

Right, down to the nitty gritty money stuff. Basically I'm getting in a bit of a pickle as we haven't got everything we need for the new arrival yet. I am nesting like never before and have this constant sense of unease that we aren't prepared. So........ and I can't believe I am about to write this....... we have decided to order the things we need using CC1 tonight. Basically we have worked out that by this time next month we will have saved enough to buy them outright, but that is only 3 weeks before my due date so the thought of leaving it that close isn't making me feel good. Therefore, purchasing now and then putting all the money we would be saving directly back onto the card will leave us in the same position financially by this time next month, but will allow us to get the stuff we need NOW.

Crikey it feels like a confessional saying that on here!! I feel very uneasy about using the CC again as we have avoided this since I came on here but I do think its the right thing to do at this stage. Aaaargh!! I shall keep in my mind that without our debts we would have been able to buy the things we need without any problem to keep a check on reality and stick to the plan other than with this slight deviation from it.

Happy Sundays everyone!! :) Hope everyone's day is less spendy than mine.
