Sounds silly but can I watch freeview without an outside Ariel?

Options
Moving into a property that's rented and it has no outside Ariel on the wall, like we do now. How can we watch tv at the new home without an Ariel on the wall? Will a indoor Ariel be any good?

If I get sky obviously I need a sky dish but would I still need an Ariel ?

Check for an aerial in the loft - are there aerial sockets in any of the rooms - that would hint that there might already be an aerial somewhere.

Yes, it's possible to get freeview with an indoor aerial if you are in an area with good freeview reception.

If you decide to waste money on sky then your dish will allow you to receive channels based on the package you pay for (but not freeview). If you leave sky, you can still pick up a lot of free channels even without a sky contract, but you need a dish and decoder to do that.
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?

If you have broadband internet, you can watch a decent selection of channels via tvcatchup.com or both the BBC & ITV allow you to watch live tv via their websites.

Well, this is supposed to be a "money saving" forum, and freeview costs a lot less than sky or virgin, hence my opinion that yes, they are both a waste if money. When I read on here of people paying £500-£1000 per year for TV channels, I would question whether it's good value.

I spend about £50 a year on fruit & veg seeds for the garden, but then again, I used to enjoy watching a show called "Why Don't You Just Switch Off Your Television Set And Got Out And Do Something Less Boring Instead?"

    Yes. .
  • The only TV i watch nowadays is all via online services, I can watch the BBC channels, Channel 4 & 5 via my Xbox which also has Netflix.

I no longer have anything to do with subscription TV or a TV licence, I can honestly say its the best thing i've done in a while cutting the cord so to speak, saving around £45 a month in total too

We use an indoor aerial for the upstairs Freeview pvr and reception is good, even without the booster, which runs on mains. However, we are quite close to the transmitter.

The aerial is from Argos and looks like a plastic wing on a stand.

No one can tell you if an indoor aerial will work at your location or not-you have to try it and see.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    What a funny question!

    Answer: Yes and no.
If you don't already have an ariel you can purchase a decent one but I suspect an ariel meant for indoor TV's wouldn't be strong enough.
You can always try and take it back if it doesn't work. Just keep the box and everything nice.

I spend £0.00 per year on my freeseeds policy. You continue to waste your £50.
