Maybe you should actually read the content of your link (an archived web page over a year old)
If you bought your item over six months ago, you may have to prove the fault was not caused by accidental damage or wear and tear. You can do this by getting a second opinion from an independent expert (see link below).

You really don't understand the SOGA and what it means do you?
the product still looks brand new so..visual proof would prove the fault was not caused by wear and tear.
as for accidental damage.. can be compared
with same, brand new product in question.
Overloading a washing machine, putting in unsuitable goods, not having high enough water pressure, having a build up of calcium from extremely hard water, having a voltage surge damage the main cct board are all examples of things that could cause damage not related to the manufacture of the machine.

Visual proof simply means that there is no damage to the outside of the appliance and may not give any indication of user related damage.
This is what Trading standards think the report should contain (and I can't see anything about visual proof being satisfactory.)

What should the expert's report contain?
You should make sure that your expert includes the following:

    • a full breakdown of the nature of the problem
    • what is the cause or likely cause of the problem and why (for example bad
      workmanship, inherent defect, faulty components)
    • what needs to be done to put the problem right
    • the cost of corrective work
    • if relevant, photographs, diagrams, plans, etc. should also be included
    • the person giving the opinion should also give details of their
      qualifications, credentials and experience

Proving your claim for faulty goods

If your claim under the Sale of Goods Act ends up in court, you may have to prove that the fault was present when you bought the item and not, for example, something which was the result of normal wear and tear.
If your claim is about a problem that arises within six months of buying the product, it's up to the retailer to prove that the goods were of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, or as described when it sold them.
    Expert's reports

Beyond six months, it's up to you to prove that the problem was there when you received the goods even if it has taken until now to come to light.
So, you may need to prove that the fault was not down to ordinary wear and tear or damage you caused, and that the product (or a component) should have lasted longer than it did.
To do this you may need an expert's report, for example, from an engineer or a mechanic.
Always try to keep the cost of any report proportionate to the value of the claim and, if you can, try to agree on an expert you and the seller both agree has the necessary expertise.

ooh 3 years or 2 it dosent matter..
..As we have posted on another forum we have a Zanussi washing machine machine where the fault has been diagnosed as a failed control panel/circuit board in the machine
its not incorrect advice if so ..how come they replaced my hotpoint drum
do you think the customer damaged the failed control panel circuit board ..if so how?
ps Beware Theres alot of people who work in shops and will give you wrong advice as they hate the soga
You must be one of them because your "advice" is so wrong.

Many people say washing machines are now deliberately designed to only last 5 years.

Anyway, MSE's forum rules have something to say about this:

It's ironic how the few bits of the wall of text Prosaver plagiarised that are relevant to this thread actually support what everyone else has been saying rather than him/her.

OP, I hope you haven't been put off by the little argument in here. As has already been said you need to go to the retailer you bought it from. If they refuse to help then you will need to get an independent report stating that the fault was inherent. Without that report it will be assumed that the fault was not inherent because it is more than 6 months since purchase.
