Why would I do that? In the last 10 years I haven't earned below £14 per hour.

What someone else gets paid has nothing to do with me.

How long have you been unemployed for?

Maybe out of a sense of social justice? Because you don't want friends, family, neighbours or anyone in the country working a job that won't pay enough to make ends meet?

I would turn the question around and ask why you wouldn't do it. If the only answer you can give is "because I'm all right jack" then all I can say is I pity you.

Are all of these 6.5milion mates of yours?

I know no one in a union and I have lots of friends actually.

Do you know any women who work? 29% of female employees are union members so if you know 3, chances are pretty good one of them is in a union.

How about anyone with a degree? 32% of employees with a degree are union members.

Or anyone working in the public sector, where over 56% of employees are union members?

I'd put money on you knowing a good few union members if you have lots of friends.

Sod the 5,000,000 British workers earning less than the living wage then!

It seems to me as if your logic is at fault and you have little reason to be so smug.

I really do doubt it but I will ask them all. I have no mates or friends in the public sector

First thing being the only person in a union in the workplace is that you are lonely and being in a union pointless. I think OP you need to be confident in asking for a raise ask for a meeting to discuss it, make no threats as from what you said the employer wouldn't think twice about getting rid of you. Just be confident that you work hard and keep the emphasis on that.
