HELP! Urgent took out old washer and flooded

Options
I'm having a new washer on monday and my grandaughter was helping me remove the old washer to get it out of the way. We unscrewed the hot and cold water pipes to the back of the washer and all water started gushing out so we had to turn the water off at the mains so we now have no water and the kitchen is flooded.

I cant see how to turn it off just at the pipes for the washer its in such an awkward place. My teenage grandaughter has tried to look and there is a red thing on one of the wall pipes and a blue thing on the other. Are these turnable to switch the water off? The new washer is going to be just cold fill so something has to be sorted out anyway I cant leave the vent open.

The blue and red small things on the pipes are they the taps? If so we dont know which way to turn them if we know for sure clockwise or anticlockwise we wont be as scared to put presure on they havent been moved for about 15 years. They are really stuck at the moment so we didnt want to force them in case it will break them. Which way do we turn them if they are to turn the water off?
Thanx

Turn them both, hold a cloth round them and turn the mains water on a little and check they are turned off.
When your happy they are both off turn your water on as normal.

    Yes to WD40

So do you think left aswell? Its just nit easy to tell as they are solid stuck just dont want to break the pipes as they are plastic and a bit flimsy

Left to loosen (anti clockwise) to let the water through, turn right (clockwise) to tighten and stop the water.

I think you'll find they are only a quarter turn and will only go the one way.

  • They should only go one way to turn off. Which should be to the right or clockwise to turn off.
If i could i would, but i cannot so i wont, but maybe one day i will.
