Try talking sense next time.Great replies from everyone it seems I am on my own complaining about BG thanks for the kind words I will de register from MS forums as I must admit that being abused for making a comment about unfair treatment from a utility company seems pointless on here.
Goodbye and enjoy life waiting for the next poor sod to make a post that you can jump all over0 -
So we are all paying different amounts for our electricity depending on how far we are away from the generating station? Which, considering the structure and operation of the National Grid, would be how far away?No it's not. Transmission losses are enormous on the grid, and directly related to distance. if you post misleading info then you can expect to get corrected-that's what a public forum is all about.
How far are you from your generating station?
I don't think a report of a rise from what you are currently paying, to what you will be paying next year, of 17% to be misleading.
A fictitious average rise from what nobody is paying, up to a new amount that nobody is paying, probably is.0 -
Dragon Q and a few others on here, you seem to miss the point I was quoted 18% above the price of my previous payment, despite no price rises since I took out the plan last year. I have not moved further away so distance is not in the mix as that hasn't changed.
Surely they have misled the customers by not putting their prices up by the stated amount over last year. Or is that too simplistic?
I will no doubt be flamed again. Thank god stoning is banned in this country0 -

Could you post your region, consumption and payment option, and we can do some calculations? Also, your current debit or credit balance would be useful.
From what you've said above, it sounds as though your *Payment* might have increased by 18%, rather than your annual bill (i.e. previously you might have been paying by DD, but a DD size that was not sufficient to cover your annual consumption).
Off the top of my head, I can't think of any region/consumption level that could see an 18% increase from the F&F tariff, but I might be wrong- hence useful to see the above information.
NB: I work for British Gas, but post here in a private capacity. My opinion is my own, and does not necessarily reflect that of my employer.0 -
I still see no "point". The price increase for you, with a particular region and particular usage, has risen more than the average quoted by the company. And? You know you can switch providers right? You should wait until all companies have announced price rises if you want a variable tariff though.Dragon Q and a few others on here, you seem to miss the point I was quoted 18% above the price of my previous payment, despite no price rises since I took out the plan last year. Also, it's pretty obvious that every single person doesn't pay a particular standing charge and/or unit price based on transport costs to their particular home. It's split into regions and averaged for all those in a certain region. Like Perelandra says, if you actually provided some useful information instead of just moaning we might be able to understand what your situation is.
I don't know what you mean. Do you mean they should have foreseen this price rise a year ago and spread the rise over a year??Surely they have misled the customers by not putting their prices up by the stated amount over last year. Or is that too simplistic?

Yes of course we do-the regional differences that we all pay are in part accounted for by the differing costs of transporting power to different regions. Transporting it a longer distance costs the supplier more.
Similarly to petrol /diesel costs-the further it has to be transported from the refinery, the higher the cost.
The OP's suggestion that transport is simply achieved by 'a flick of the switch' without any cost implications is absurd. No free lunch, and no free laptop

OP, you'll find 90% of this forum will have no sympathy for John Q Public and will defend the huge corporations. Oh they have costs, oh but they have transmission losses, oh but you were on a fixed rate which has now ended so more fool you for not being able to add up, oh the papers always lie anyway so you're an idiot for thinking it was the truth, oh but remember it costs them more to transport it further.
They never ever realise that the little guy is often struggling to pay bills to keep warm while the companies that are charging them continue to make massive profits year on year.0 -

The little guy may be struggling but may i suggest that asking for help on this forum the facts are better than spouting some Marxist philosophy .Furthemore this 90% of users that do reply are mostly in the same boat as posters and not stinking rich capitalists who believe the peasants are revolting .0 -
Total rubbish. You've obviously never read this forum, almost every thread is about trying to get people the best deals or complaining about price increases.OP, you'll find 90% of this forum will have no sympathy for John Q Public and will defend the huge corporations.
