 Another i'm alright jack comment that is way out of touch with reality :(

Never ceases to amaze me that so many on a MS forum are quite happy to be ripped off ;)

Lets get down to reality and that is the thousands who are NOT as privileged as some here and dont have the ability or facility to shop around, AND THAT is why the hikes and ridiculous amount of tariffs are so unfair, why should someone who is privileged enough to be able to get online and have a facility for DD's be able to get the best deals at the expense of ANYONE

But a massive problem now is that there aren't a ridiculous amount of tariffs any more. There used to be nice cheap tariffs subsidised by those who didn't care what they paid, these are now gone as they were 'so unfair'. So now those who didn't care pay less and the rest of us subsidise them.

I'm not sure I understand the different people in this thread who are claiming it's difficult or complicated to shop around? You go to a website, you stick in the details it asks you for, which are readily available on your bill, and it spits out a list of tariffs that will save you money, and by how much.

It really isn't rocket science. While I take the point some may not have access to the internet (let's use the elderly demographic as an example), 99.9% of people in this category will have an indirect form of access either through family or local services like a library.

It may not be rocket science to those that have a rocket ;) but I disagree, totally, that that 99.9% will have indirect access:eek:

If people think all payment types should cost the same they should go to Ebico and possibly find their payments go up.

We often hear of people saying Prepayment users are poor. This is not true for all users. I speak to people daily who just don't want to get bills and say they feel comfortable paying as they use. I also speak to elderly who are either on Direct debits/ the internet or both. Too many assumptions are made.

Companies now send info to customers about their tariffs and what others are available. If there is a vulnerable customer that does not understand what is written (more often nowadays) in plain English then either family / Age UK or CAB can help with decisions.

Too often people shout at the individual energy companies but seem to take no responsibility themselves such as when not correcting estimated bills. Companies- at least the big ones- have energy efficiency teams which should be used. I usually find it is people with teenagers that have larger bills. This needs the residents of the house to be educated as to what is using the energy so they can cut down on it.

Companies are businesses so of course they have to make money but they also have obligations to help reduce consumption. Also remember how many people in the UK have jobs from energy companies and that the government is getting all the taxes from most of the companies so it would never work to be re nationalised.
