    Hello,

My parents are off to Oz for good in about 3 months.
They're about to sell the house.
They won't have tonnes of cash- maybe £180K.

What's the best way to get their money to Oz?
They do have a bank account out there if that helps!

Just trying to save them some money as that's all they've got so it's important they lose as little in commission etc.

    THANKS!

Hi, perhaps your parents can apply for a flexi account from Nationwide where you can use the card around the world without any charge then when they get there in Oz, withdraw and apply for an local acct..am not just sure if this is possible for a big amount.

i have friends who wish to transfer a large sum of money to florida usa, for a house purchase.
the banks want an arm and a leg to do it. the money brokers seem much cheaper but appear unregulated.
whats the cheapest way of doing it?

(bearing in mind the fx rate and security of the moneys).

    ps.
ive been horrified to discover that these broker companies are allowed to have your life savings, for a few days, with no guarantees. and that if they go bust overnight, that your money could well disappear!
    Get some gorm.

Not sure if I am on the right thread here or not - please point me in the right direction if not!! My difficulty is that one of my substantial debts is to someone in Switzerland. In the past I have ordered large denomination (1000CHF) notes from my bank (Lloyds) & sent money via the International signed for mail - risky although so far it always got there OK, I also have used bank transfer but that was also expensive via Citibank. Is there a more economical way to send the cash or any good ideas? The amount is around £15,000 altogether but I usually send approx £5,000 at one time.

TIA if anyone can help with advice or suggestions! :D

  • My daughter was planning to travel in Japan for a few month but had to return home prematurely due to illness. She had taken 385,000 Japanese Yen with her which cost £1688, a rate of 228 Yen to the pound.

When she tried to change this back to sterling, the best buy back rate was 245 (Marks and Spencers) and the worst 260 from the post office.

Does anyone know any way she can avoid loosing £116 when changing back, or at least minimise the exchange loss?
  • Hi everyone, Not sure if this is the right place or not. If not then please ignore.

A bit of insight to me/us........

We do mainly painting and decorating [self employed] although we are qualified Interior Designers and have done some small Interior Design for Clients in the UK.

We have been engaged by a client who currently lives in Hong Kong and is due to come back to England in 2 years. He has bought an apartment in London. As well as the Interior Design he has engaged us to oversea the complete renovation and modernisation of the project, source and purchase all furnishings, kitchen, bathrooms etc.,

Due to the amount of funds that will be involved we are trying to decide the best way to handle the money side.

Do we ask for cheques upon presentation of invoices [this may take some time because of postage] or would it be best to set up an account where the client would deposit payments and we draw from this with his approval? How does the exchange rate affect either of these options?

Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

    Many thanks

    Hiya

    Quick question.

Does anybody know of a way I can get cash (in Chilean pesos) into my UK bank account, without carting a whole stack of cash around South America.

Or any other means of sending money home, for us to pick up it up when we return (2 months later from receiving the money).

    Guy

Ps DHL wont let us send cash int he mail

  • I'm going to Belgium at the end of April for some surgery. Its gonna cost 10500 Euros.
They've given me the options of paying by cheque, cash, card or bank transfer.
Every penny really counts for me-so whats my best option for maximising my Euros???
    Many thanx

  • The best method of payment would be Nationwide debit card. You will not get charged any additional fees and their rate of exchange is generally one of the best.

HSBC now offer their customers the option of sending money abroad over the phone. It used to be that you had to go into a branch (money laundering regs etc) but this has changed.

Of course there is a cost involved and I THINK it is £20
  • My M-I-L in Switzerland is giving us some money to help us buy a house. The amount is 50,000 CHF, which should be around £20,000.

What is the best way for her to transfer the money to us? Do we just give her our current account details (NatWest) and let her bank do the transfer? Or is there a better way?

    Thanks
