I have tried reading through this thread but there's a lot of info to go through. I send occasional amounts of Euros to a person I buy from in Holland. The figure is between €600 and €1200 each time and I have posted the payments before but this is risky as they cannot be insured. Is there a cheap and reliable way I can arrange it, I trust the bloke but can't put him to too much trouble.

Hello, I'm a newbie here.
I get my salary in US dollars paid directly into a UK bank account, I have been advised (by my bank) to open an offshore account and get the dollars paid in there and then transfer it to my UK account in Sterling. The details they have sent meof their offshore account look to have very high charges attached. Can anyone point me in the right direction to compare charges.

Would this be a property secrets deal by any chance?
yes I used currency solutions about a year ago to pay a deposit on a polish property i was buying and I will probably be using them again for my future purchases.
No problems to report, everything went through as expected.0 -
Hi all, found this thread and thought I'd ask you lovely people whether any of you had found a good way of getting a US Dollar dividend cheque into £'s cheaply and easily?
I've checked with the company and cheque is the only way they are prepared to send the dividend. It ends up being about $300 every 6 months - not a huge amount to pay for an ongoing US dollar account but annoying to be paying £10 in charges each time (which my bank charges me - that's Nationwide).
I'd appreciate any suggestions :T
Thanks,

A tenner for a $300 cheque seems pretty reasonable to me. You could open a Citibank Plus account (£10 a month) and then you could have a dollar account into which the deposits would be free. You could then leave the dollars there (at today's high rate I would not change to sterling unless you really need the money) to accrue for a holiday or for Ebay or other dollar purchases. You would get a dollar cheque book and the visa debit card can be switched between the sterling and dollar account at a moments notice as your preference takes you.
The £10 per month also gives you free Card Protection Plan, annual world wide travel insurance, mobile phone insurance, and an interest free £500 overdraft. So it could be that you could squeeze £120 a year's savings out of having the account.

A few months ago I paid a USD cheque into our current acct - the charge was £10. I suggest, ask your bank first what the cheque processing charge will be, may not be as bad as you expected.0

Not sure if TTT Moneycorp has been mentioned, but worth looking into for good rates and low charges...they also offer to pay the "other" charge where the bank receiving/routing takes a cut!!

I've been looking for a dollar account with a debit card but they all seem to have large initial deposits 10K to 25K plus a monthly fee of at least £20.
Can anyone help?
Am I reading them wrong.
I don't want to withdraw the money in the US, but in Argentina so it would have to be an international card. I may have up to $5000 to deposit.0 -
