  • 'Otherwise, for low value transfers, they can be done for £2.50, all online and paid for with Paypal or your normal internet banking by using a 'service' to make the IBAN transfer on your behalf'

Can you recommend a provider for this kind of 'service'

  • Hi
I make occasional payments to a bank account in NL for products I buy. I currently pay about £21 for an IBAN with First Direct and get a better conversion rate. I have to pay about £1800 this time, would there be a cheaper option?

    Thanks

  • I hoped one of you kind people might be able to shed some light onto a query for me. I've had a quick read of other postings on the same subject and am completely confused! There seems to be so many different options, but would appreciate some advice and experience.

We're moving to Germany in Jan and my hubby will be paid Euros into an account over there. The situtaion will arise that we will need to send money from Germany to our UK account. The move won't be time critical, just moving money back into UK savings.

    - What's the cheapest way to transfer money from Germany to UK?
    - How do you do it?
    - Can it be done in reverse? (Uk to Germany)
    - Could I use pay-pal account and fund it from my German account?
    - What are the pit-falls to look out for?

    Thanks in advance Helliecopter

You might be better off starting a new thread as you want to send money from Germany rather than the reverse

Thanks Grumbler for your tip re. Nationwide. I also have one of their Flex Accounts, but as I am the one who will be permanently living overseas, I won't be able to keep this account open. If my ex husbands opens a Flexaccount with Nationwide, and we use the 2 card approach, I am worried that the bank will query the frequent and regular withdrawals made in Austria.

I have NW account and regularly draw money in Spain. They have never questioned it to date = 5+ years :j

If I were your ex, I would not be happy opening a joint account - he will be liable for any debts you may accrue. Why not just keep your own account open(?) and ask him to transfer how ever much per month by SO.

  • I have read all the options so far but still not sure which is actually the cheapest. The hotel does not accept credit card as a deposit and have sent me all their bank details IBAN and Swift etc - I have never used these and do not really know why they exist. I use online banking normally - however time is short -they want the deposit by the 3 jan. The amount is 250 euros so I don't want to get stung by heavy bank charges for the service.
    Any suggestions
