Just checked the ebay.com website, and it states that sellers are not permitted to pass their paypal fees onto buyers:
http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/listing-surcharges.html
Tell the seller you won't be paying these charges, and if he refuses to sell to you, submit a non-performing seller complaint to Ebay."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
there is a company called moneybookers i used once ant the fee they charge might be less than paypalMoney is only of any use if you can spend it!:cool:0

It was a US ebay purchase and yes I have budgeted for all applicable taxes Even after all shipping and taxes it still works out to be around half the price of what you would pay here.
I stopped a friend of mine from sending £5k to a spanish person who had a car ready to ship to UK from Valencia using an ESCROW service that nobody had ever heard of.
I persuaded him that this was a definite scam and after phoning EBAY they pulled the auction.
Ths same car in the UK would have cost at least £9k - some bargains are not what they seem!:eek:0 -
Don't send the funds via your bank, that's for sure.
Worldfirst, Hifx and IrelandFX are some currency transmission providers, if it;s more than 2k then try them. there is a £4 charge and a transfer fee of £15 - £20, but apart from that they will give you the best exchange rates around.
give them a call and get a quote on $10,000 or whatever the bke cost. They'll be able to tell you the cost in GBP and then you just BACS (3 day transfer) them the money.
I've used Worldfirst and IrelandFX before and spoke to guys called Giles at Worldfirst and andrew at irelandFX. Never done a deal with Hifx, but they're pretty well known.
Good luck...vroom vroom

Thanks Guys,
Seems my bank will do it for a £20 charge which I think is reasonable.
Re: the seller fees I will let that go as I don't want to fall out with the guy and will use my bank in future. He has more that I want to purchase.
Yes it is perfectly legit too.

Hi,
I want to send money via elecronic transfer to a business contact in China. I did this last year successfully using If.com which charged me £5. Which I thought was fair after I rang around various banks and they wanted £18-25.
Now If.com want £14, and others more.
The contact doesn't take paypal or moneybookers (I'm glad I found this searching the forum as I am going to offer it as an alternative payment on eBay). There's also Eurogiro https://www.eurogiro.co.uk which despite its name does have a partner in China. (another option from here which I had never heard of but looks worth investigating).
Does anybody have any other suggestions? I want to do some regular business with China for small amounts to resell the goods, but with the increases in eBay charges, paypal and postage fees, another whack on top from the banks, seems a bit much, especially if IF could originally do it for £5...suggests £25 is a bit steep to me.
I looked at money brokers but they were looking at 800 minimums, which again, is out of the price bracket.
thanks for any pointers.0 -

If you've not yet seen it, there's an article which may help find the cheapest (or even free) option:
