Would you call the police on neighbors if you hear domestic issues/violence ?

Hi

Last sunday my neighbors upstairs were having domestic issues that involves screaming, shouting, and throwing things around. This went on for like 10-20 minutes, but to me it felt too long.

I was worried that i was about to send the message to landlord . Thank god i didn't.

The walls are thin and i can hear them. I though of calling the police. In hindsight, it would have been a bad idea.

I'm only moved in August and never interacted with the male partner. I have only spoken to the lady once, where she seem nice. She held my broadband package for me .

I was scared and didn't know what to do. Calling the police could have made things worst.

The man was screamer, swearing etc .

I clearly don't know them.

What would you do ?

Call the police

Mind your business

Close your eyes and pretend you're deaf.

This morning I just got a note stuck on the door saying i shouldn't lock the door as their gas meter is in ground floor.

When i come home at night , around 9.30 pm. I lock the door. Last night, there was a lot of noise from door slamming .

What am i suppose to do ? Not lock doors, because somebody might come at night time to look at their gas meter .

I have called the police a number of times in the past when I had a neighbour who was a bit handy with his wife.
It never came to anything as she wouldnt press charges.

I have done. Eventually the split up, charges were never brought as it was her beating him around and I don't think he wanted to admit to it.

They also go evicted. But that was more down to the damage they cause, breaking windows etc.

Is the door dual access? Is it for your property only? I don't get the door thing so can you explain a bit more?

I have called the police in the past as I was very concerned about a female neighbour. Im not sure I could turn a deaf ear to domestic abuse.

You can call the police without giving your name.

Their gas meter is on the ground floor which is in my area. Their is only one way to access, which is to go through my entrance .

Who checks their meter at night? They will need a torch to see anything as their is no light

I was annoyed to see the note this morning .

If you can't hear evidence of violence I would say hold off for a while, when dh and I first started living together we had some real humdingers, pretty much as you described but violence was never part of it.
However if you see she/he has bruises etc then next time I would.
I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.

Is it a card meter? Could be they needed to top it up.

Good point. I haven't though about that.

The landlord owes both properties and in ground floor, there is no card meter. I assumed they wouldn't have it upstairs .

    It could be .

I felt fear for her. The guy is big and she's petite and chubby. I wonder if the lady was bigger(taller), whether i would have felt fear for her. I know size can be deceiving.
