Replacing Dell Computer

Don't want a laptop thanks. I already have a Toshiba laptop. This is to replace our Dell desktop. The price also includes home set up and transfer of data.
If you want it all done for you, it's an option.
If you are willing to do a bit of work for yourself, you can spend less and get a better system.
Notwithstanding, a six year old Desktop can be upgraded cheaply with more RAM and a cheap graphics card, to take the strain off the CPU.
Perhaps £40 or less. Maybe even the option to add another internal hard drive, dependent on the model.
So perhaps £50 for an altogether different animal.
Now, what are the Service Tag details?0 -
Not confident installing the OS. If I go for the refurb the guy will come here and set up and transfer the data. I think I would prefer Windows 7 as I have heard horror stories about Windows 8.
You don't need to be confident. You just need to be able to read and to follow simple step by step instructions.
You'll have the OS installed within the hour.
You can use Windows Easy Transfer to transfer your data back and forth.
If you depend on someone else doing it all for you, you will always depend on someone else.
Instead of spending money on a new PC, I upgraded mine for £30 and spent some cash(£120) on a 24" Full HD monitor instead.

if it works, why replace it. 6 years isn't old.!!

It is running slowly and we have already replaced the hard disk once. I have cleaned up the hard disk by running various like CC cleaner etc. The cd/dvd player is temperamental.
I understand XP is not going to be supported and I don't know how to go about updating to Windows 7.0 -
Slow can be cured in an hour or less (ccleaner won't fix it), dvd player may be a software problem - have you had itunes installed?, if not, they are around £10, xp not being supported matters very little.
If you've replaced the hd, then it's relatively new.

Yes if we have the service tag then we can see what actual machine and specs it has to see if it can be upgraded0
