My Dell computer is now over 6 years old and I am looking to replace/upgrade. I have no idea what the spec was when I bought it. However, I have been offered the following refurbished computer and wondered if anyone can advise as to whether this is a good spec. My Monitor, keyboard and mouse all work fine so won't be replacing them. Current operating system is XP.
AMD X250 3.0GHZ processor, 500gb hard drive, 4gb memory, DVD Rewriter, Windows 7

if you go onto the dell site you can use the service tag displayed on your computer case and it will tell you the systems specs at purchase. This wont tell you if you have upgraded the PC at anytime0

Thanks - I can do that. However, I would welcome comment on whether the spec in my OP sounds OK for every day use.0 -

£280 for that is too expensive! That spec at least 3 year old with entry level CPU.

Those zoostorm is pre-order probably due to OS. windows 8.1 release on 18/10/2013
By the way, 6 year desktop still upgradeable.0 -

Don't want a laptop thanks. I already have a Toshiba laptop. This is to replace our Dell desktop. The price also includes home set up and transfer of data.0 -
It's not great.
You can get cheaper basic PCs and install the OS yourself.
This way you can test it with Windows 7 and/or 8 before deciding on which you will stick.0 -

Not confident installing the OS. If I go for the refurb the guy will come here and set up and transfer the data. I think I would prefer Windows 7 as I have heard horror stories about Windows 8.0
