I am very keen to clear the debt and forget the bad bits of my past so a discounted lump sum sounds better. All I have to do now is try and speak to someone with half a brain cell that can actually speak to someone else who deals with the discounted debt clearances. Wish me luck, I feel I may need lots of it.
Try writing to them. You would need their offer in writing anyhow.:beer:0 -
Ok guys new update. Spoke to someone half intelligent (must of got lucky) and they spoke to their manager and have cut off £1000 from the debt if I were to pay it off in one lump sum. However this will not show on my credit report as 'settled' or 'paid' but will show as 'partially settled'. Erm, !!!!!!?
Surely the lowered amount doesn't mean it's not fully settled?? The whole point of me doing this is so I can forget my past, make a fresh start and repair my credit report, I don't want this showing as partially paid!
Do you think I should write a letter in, similar or the same as Goodtimesahead writes here: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2271893

Partially settled is to be expected. Creditors are under a legal obligation to report the status of the debt accurately. Increasingly this means that they will not mark a partially settled debt as fully settled.
It will still drop off your credit file 6 years after default anyway.BSC No 248

An account would only be marked "settled" had you paid in full, any account that is closed with a full and final will always be marked as such, that's the way the cookie crumbles im afraid, however the defaults will disappear 6 yrs from date they were registered.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Ok cheers folks.
The other question I meant to ask, out of the original £3800 debt I had only two defaulted accounts show on my credit file totalling £1100, Cabot also confirmed these are the only two accounts that would be shown as partially settled, can someone tell me what this means? If I paid these two off wouldn't that clear my credit file? What might have happened to the other debts? Can Cabot alter my credit score if I don't pay the full agreed settlement figure?
I can confirm the Noddle, Checkmyfile and My Credit Tracker agencies all show just the two accounts as in debt.0 -

There are 3 CRA`s, noddle, Experian, and Equifax, lenders can use any of these, so best to check all 3 !!!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Do you think it's essential? I've just signed up to a free trial with givemecredit.com, same report again. To re-register with Experian/Equifax I have to phone up and pay monthly fees which I'd prefer to avoid if possible, if I have to then so be it.0 -

I think they have/or had an offer on where you can get your one off report for £2, best to check there websites, any company offering you a "free" report are just accessing the noddle website, its free to everyone you see, bit of a con that one

Ah ok, cheers.
I've ordered the online £2 report, hopefully this should confirm the other agencies report. If so, just need to know others knowledge on this, really don't want to be paying nearly £2k more than what may be necessary.0
