:rotfl:Umm has no one thought to ask what the boiler thermostat and room thermostat are set at, if eithers too low you wont get the system hot ;)

I would also turn the upstairs rads off and see if the downstair gets hot then ;)

AND I would also check to see if the TRV's are on the flow or return of each rad, and before anyone says, they might NOT be dual purpose, and I still doubt the theory behind them anyway :p;)
    Thermostats are set high.
TRV's are fitted to the Flow side but are multi direction also.
I'm going to try switching all the upstairs rads off

10 mm plastic: did the builder use barrier pipe, heating manifolds? 6 years since a service, well overdue despite your reservations about Mr. Hoover. A RGI should follow routine servicing detailed in the manual. Ask when you book and don't forget to mention the issues with the CH system as some are not prepared/unwilling/ lack the competence to deal with plumbing side.

There is 22mm Copper Pipe in the airing cupboard.
The service 6 years ago was done by www.bartons-heating.co.uk quite a reputable local company, I think it was £60 at the time for the Service

Yeah 9 Rads, would you say the boiler could be too small then ?
    Thanks
First thing, set the pump on its highest setting. Does that improve matters?

Next thing, observe the boiler with the system to temperature on a coldish day, room thermostat to max, TRVs set for comfort. Start timing from when the boiler fires on. Note the time when it switches off and continue timing to the boiler switching back on again.

(Demand percentage) = (time on) *100% / (cycle time)

If your Demand percentage is over 85% then the boiler is probably at its limit.
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'

Thanks for all the replies guys !
I've just switched all the radiators off except the offending 2, the heating has been on for 3 hours.
Both radiators are red hot at the tops and down the sides but in the middle & by the bottom they are lukewarm/cold.

Is it possible for sludge in a what I would call a fairly new system (13 years old) that has always had Sentinol In ?

I'm thinking of joining British Gas Home Care 200, £132 for the year but £50 Quidco cashback.
I take it British Gas would give the boiler a "Proper Service" ?
Could I claim for the Rads on this BG scheme ?

    Thanks Again
  • FYI, my 3 bed semi-deatched house with 8 radiators (two of them are quite small, about 2ft x 2ft each) has a 16KW boiler.

Sludge is possible. Any further with the search for manifolds, type of plastic pipe used? This has implications for the system. I'll leave the comments about BG to others.
