£20000 gross = approx £1344 net per month after tax and NI

    http://www.netsalarycalculator.co.uk/

    CTC with 3 children on £20000 salary = 7040 pa = 586.66 per month

    http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/leaflets/wtc2.pdf

    CB x3 children = £47.10 pw = £204.10 per month

(Plus a bit of CT and housing benefit)

Income of £2000+ after tax per month

Also can you not teach one of them to drive? I was taught by my grandfather as couldn't afford lessons and took the test in his car.

Are they actually claiming the benefit though? Hard to tell from what OP is saying what the truth is. Their way out of this situation is to just spend less.

Is your daughter being honest with you OP? Sounds like they are taking advantage pleading poverty and getting you to provide transport for them when you can and you are feeding the family a lot of the time too. When your benefits are cut you need to let them be more financially independent. As it sounds like you and your DH will be struggling more than them with running a car and living on one wage.

So £20k wages (£15k take home money?), £7835 CTC and £2449 CB?

If it's a such a struggle to live off that, where is the money going?

I looked at why your figure for tax credits was lower than the other link and in your link on page 19 it's £7835 as they get WTC too. Just in case people are confused.

It seems that the OP is avoiding answering the question on the amount of TC her daughter is recieving. It also seems that she knows she recieves the above amounts and is maybe a little embarrassed to admit that her daughter and family can't live within their means and would like even more benefits.
Some good advice given by Vassa on saving money, maybe your daughter needs to have a read.

I actually just switched to EDF about half an hour ago because they now provide cheaper energy than the other supplier. £12 a year cheaper. 25p a week is not to be snuffed at.

I just think OP needs to have a conversation with her daughter, OP isn't in a good place medically and she cannot continue to finance her daughters family. I understand why as her mother she is doing what she is doing but her health needs to come first. OP why not have a cup of coffee with her tomorrow, ask why she's not claiming tax credits or if she is then why she's struggling so much she needs you to support them.
