Are you sure your daughter has been truthful as to how much tax credits she receives, ie. saying she gets no working tax credits, but forgetting to omit how she gets in child tax credits? Could she be struggling because of debts?0

So apparently I'm putting barriers up. If the figures quoted were correct my daughter wouldn't have a problem. Re. Cleaning holiday cotages, you have to have a car to drive to collect clean linen etc to take to the cottages. Neither of them drive. She can't take a lodger in, 3 bed house and not allowed on tenancy agreement same as us. My other half has just said there's plenty of caves in our area. We can become hermits and not bother anyone else ever again.0

They are only entitled to child tax credit, that is all, she will get nothing else. They will get 70p. Council tax benefit and £2.00 rent, not even the price of 2 loaves of bread in our shop.
They need to contact HMRC tax credit office, not the job centre.Neither of them drive
Why can't at least one of them learn and you lend them your car for a while?
The situation around them isn't going to change. They need to come up with ways of solving the problems or accept that they will be in this situation long term.0 -
It was the benefits office, my mistake.. They can't afford to pay for driving lessons let alone run a car and the insurance alone would be out of reach anyway. My insurance is bad enough, almost 40yrs driving and no claims, touchwood.0

So the answer is what? Sit and feel sorry for yourself? Many of us have tried to put up solutions (I don't see how anyone can stop you having a lodger), you have found reasons why none of them are possible, maybe that is so but no-one can magic some extra money up out of thin air! If her (or your) income was low enough, you would be eligible, but you're not, so you have to look for other solutions. Maybe if you told us your sources of income we may be able to help more.
Has your daughter tried HMRC re tax credits?(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Did you check the link that was posted? These figures are accurate - 3 children and £20k equates to £7835 p.a CTC plus CB. Either she is not claiming what she is entitled to or she is giving you inaccurate information somewhere.0 -
What seven-day-weekend said.
If she's in council housing her rent will be dirt cheap compared to the national average. If she's in private rented but is getting a contribution (but not the full amount) from the govt then she needs to move somewhere cheaper.
If she's on a big phone contract she needs to cancel it and go PAYG. If she's paying for Sky TV (or any TV), she needs to cancel it. If she's not gona on uSwitch to change providers, she needs to look into it.
You won't tell us what the full story is, so i'm presuming you've done all this and yet say you still can't function as two lots of two adults bringing in regular money.
As you say you've tried everything, you're stuffed because you're not going to get any more money. The only way to do it is to live within your means and not outside of them. You only do that by cutting back on non-essentials. It's rubbish, but it's either that or deal with the situation you're in now.
What exactly is the situation? Are they able to pay bills and rent, and provide food every month? What do they struggle to pay?
£20k after tax + NI is probably about £15k per year bring home. You shouldn't be struggling on that, if you are there is stuff you are currently paying for that you shouldn't be paying for. Only you know the truth. But it does seem like you've come here to see what extra benefits (thereby costing you zero effort) you can grab.0 -

So £20k wages (£15k take home money?), £7835 CTC and £2449 CB?
If it's a such a struggle to live off that, where is the money going?0 -

The best way to get help is to post a SOA.
That will show how much money is coming in and whether there is any opportunity to reduce their costs.0
