grow up, you slipped, get over it. bet you took less time to call a no win no fee solicitor than you took to hit the ground
Odd comment for such a new user who deleted her thread calling others insensitive....:rotfl:

    Oop our posts crossed..
  • I am surprised that the OP didn't have negotiate the 100s of people already on lying on the floor in a heap after the step.
    You fell, get over it.

Hello everyone and thanks for the many (thanked) constructive and valid points raised and sorry for the delay in replying didnt realize it would attract so much interest.
Am amazed how people jump to conclusions, judgement, and accusations to what did or didnt happen or what will or will not happen in the future.

What happened is that as i stepped forward my heel slid on the slippery (wet of water - no diesel or petrol etc etc - as just outside the shop and not on the forecourt) tile and lost balance and fell over.
Had pain on my right side of my body for the next couple of days but am ok now and do not repeat do not intend and never intended to make any personal injury claim.

All I would like is some recompense for my trousers (not designer so no huge cost involved) and as I never claimed for something like this in my whole life wanted to know how you go about it.

Secondly and most importantly if I fell and have the acumen and possibility to bring an improvement so that no-one else falls (with possibly greater injuries) then yes I welcome the fall and hope something is learned from it and the flooring improved.

As I mentioned in my first post I have seen those black strips on tiles in the past and seem very effective. It would feel "happy' if my fall would result in the strips being placed on the tiles (which are anti slips but dont prevent from slipping)

There were no net signs when I fell and I am not completely convinced that they would work either. One because a lot of people dont take any notice of them and two because a sign itself would not save you from a fall even if you took extra precaution.

I hope to have satisfied everyones thirst for an answer and end of speculation. If you have any other questions or anything i have not made absolutely clear please ask and I am very happy to reply.

    Thank you

thanks for clearing that up bikebarbie. glad to hear you are ok.
have you as yet spoken to any one at the said petrol station, it may be easier than writing a letter to head office, however they may advise or prompt you to do so anyway, if it was a petrol station from a major retailer they may give you a voucher for new trousers. or you can just buy a new pair of similar value and take that recept along with your damaged pair for comparison.

others may give you better advice as im just a layman in these matters.

hope all works out and pls keep us posted.

OP I assume you mean the step up off the road level where they place things like the newspaper racks etc. These are usually flat, but if its inclined then then antislip strips wont do anything especially if is raining. signs dont need to be displayed unless its inside the shop.

How big of a heel on your shoes and was it not just the heel gave way, which caused you to lose balance.

I would speak to forecourt manager ASAP or if its a national chain then contact the chain HQ with the date and time and ask them to view the CCTV which should cover the shop doorway so they can see the incident.

Hi earthstorm, there is no step. I was wearing cow-boy style boots so quite a large and chunky (and low) heel.

There is an incline and believe something like this would work (also on an incline) regularly go there - been there in wet / snowy conditions.

Hi Skitler, I have not been back to the petrol station, when I left my details they said that someone was going to contact me so as it only happened a few days ago i was going to give them some time before contacting them. :)

I would still contact their HQ, just incase the forecourt manager suddenly loses the CCTV showing what happened.
