Has anyone had these installed in there properties?
British gas has rung me and said they are wanting to put these into my house end of the month.
I'm a little bit worried as my wife has just had a new baby 5 days ago I've been googling and it's saying there are major risks with the amount of radiation coming out of these things?
What do u guys reckon?

Scare stories - it's from the same bunch that want you to carry a red flag when using a mobile phone. The plus point, no meter reader or estimated bills, the bad?
They can cut you off remotely if you don't pay.
But I understand it is not in your power to reject a smart meter as the switchover is mandated by the Govt.0 -
If your worried about radiation from mobiles and microwaves don't get one.
The other poster is totally wrong, they are not mandatory.0 -
The reason for the exchange is for two reasons
Either you are on a list of customers that could have an exchange or you are on a list that needs an exchange
There is nothing wrong with asking for it to be postponed.0 -

Rubbish. The government has said all houses must have them by 2020.
Do you listen to the radio? do you have WiFi? these all omit operate just like your smart meter....
BG cant fit mine, as the board where the fuse box is, is too close to the ceiling, the meter is that big it wont fit onto the board. need to ring SP to resolve.Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?0 -
If you use a mobile phone then you've already had far more radiation from it than you'll ever get from a smart gas or electricity meter. You hold a phone up to your head, keep it in your pocket or handbag or wander around with it in your hand and it's squirting out "radiation" all of the time that it's switched on - even more when it's actually in use against your head. Likewise if you use or have wifi in your home it's transmitting & receiving from the router as well as all the computers that you are using it with. Bluetooth as well, not to mention TVs & microwave ovens. A smart meter would be the least of my worries
There some nutters out there who really do get some strange ideas and others who actually believe them as well:rotfl:Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -

No one has to have one. Also some 80% of them are not working correctly and to be honest why bother - it limits you to some extent on providers too. I am not aware of any other energy coy installing them.0
-
Well, EDF are currently installing them, to name but one.
How does it 'limit your provider'? if you switch suppliers then it just works as a conventional 'dumb' meter. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
