ih ,py trvronomh ,means tested benefit, and on a low income, you can apply for an exemption for prescription costs (fill in an HC1) or if your income is too high, pay ib advance for a monthly/quaterly/yearly pre payment certificate. you may also be abke to claim back some transport costs for appointments if on a low income/on benefit

you havent lost any money ... you are waiting to find out if you will be awarded more, so no, i dont think you will starve is you are receiving everything you are already entitled to

o did read your post, and that is why i called it silly.
waiting 300 years? isnt that silly?

if you only earn £40 a month over to receive tax credits, you would still have some entitlement tp housing benefit/council tax support and probably he;p with NHS costs.

Except according to the CAB and turn2us I dont.

Lets see additional costs since March so 9 months at min £240 travel £15 OH prescription. £30 sundry aid costs guess what these things dont wait till something is approved they have to be met each month as well as rent, council tax, heating, lighting, water we were just about surviving 9 months on slush fund is gone and we are not.
I am not going to respond any more as your determined not to admit that the length people are waiting for a decision is ridiculous.
  • If there wasn't an actual financial need for this benefit then this benefit would not exist !

It therefore stands to reason that someone's claim needs to be sorted ASAP.

My friends condition means she feels the cold a lot even in the summer ! The heating bills are a big worry.

It is totally unacceptable to have to wait so long for a decision so I agree with Mellymoo74

yes the length of time is ridiculous but its not supposed to be replied upon to feed and support such as ESA and JSA.

Although turntous and the cab have said no you are not entitled have you filled in the forms, they can only say no. http://www.nhs.uk/NHSEngland/Healthcosts/Documents/2012/HC11-oct12-approved.pdf

    That is a ridiculous argument.
If it is not to be relied upon, then by definition, it should only be used for unimportant things.

DLA is an additional income, that is intended to help with the added costs of disability.

If someone incurs extra costs due to being disabled, whatever these costs are - this is clearly what DLA is intended for.

Sometimes, these costs are not avoidable, without risking severe health consequences.

And sometimes - these costs are not on obvious 'disabled' items - but for example healthy pre-cooked meals for someone that can't cook.

This makes the 'normal' expenditure higher.
DLA is _NOT_ intended for only purchasing wheelchairs or other 'disability related' items - simply because for many disabilities there aren't any such items that will make their condition normal.

If DLA was paid generously enough to completely normalise someones life - and make them as able as anyone else - the argument you raise would be fair enough.

In my case, for example, the only thing that would come close would be 24*7 full-time support and assistance service.

Thank you, whats annoying me is the fact that people dont seem to grasp that the things PIP is supposed to help pay for wont wait for PIP. Leaving people with clear choices (food or medication a recent one for me or there is tomorrows choice of OH attending hospital appointment or eating) I have not paid one of our bills this month because last month crippled me and I needed to borrow to get OH to the last two appointments this means that I started this month in a bad position and already have severe issues with tomorrows next weeks and the week afters appointments.

I am sorry roger but I disagree and you seem to be contradicting yourself in your post.

ESA/JSA is meant to cover the basics, whether is does or not is another matter, ESA is greater than JSA due to the difficulties associated with being ill.

The purpose of DLA/PIP is according you "If someone incurs extra costs due to being disabled, whatever these costs are - this is clearly what DLA is intended for.
    "

Now the people who are going through mandatory consideration for ESA and have no money coming in they are at risk of starving.

I am sorry you are in this situation but have you considered that when you get a decision with regards pip it may not be the one you are looking for and you may then have to wait another 6 months or so for an appeal.

Is there no local charities that could help you out with transport to and from the hospital or neighbours or family ? Have you applied for the help with nhs costs ? Have you asked your gp if there is a better way to manage you tablets to try and reduce that outgoing ?
