What rights, if any, does a 17 year old have when fired?

It's not your employers fault though that you choose to live where you do. If the journey by public transport is too complicated, you either need to move or make other arrangements.
You say your bus has been late 20 times in 3 months. That is about a third of the time. If you are only on time for work 60-70% of the time that is appalling and I am surprised your employer accepts this, even if you do attribute it to the bus.
You also said in a previous job, presumably with a different journey to work, you were late so often your pay was regularly docked so it sounds like punctuality for work just isn't a priority for you.
Your world is very black an white isn't it?
Ok ill move close to my work houses close to work are double what a paid for my house where I am now. Ok I'll make other arrangements I could drive but that involves using the M25 so I'd be worse off then. As there is only 1 way to get to my office I'm a bit stuck aren't I. Oh ill just get another job because you know they are so easy to find at the moment.
A lot of the time the bus is late is on my journey home but I was making a point on the unreliability of public transport especially in my area.
I don't use the underground for my train I use Greater Anglia and they don't count anything as a delay until it's over 5 minutes. Their service level is currently 92.2% as I said that does not include delays under 5 minutes which a frequent (just look at their Twitter feed)
I am late maybe on average 2 times a month and normally by 2-3 minutes.
However when I am at work I don't take smoking breaks or any comfort breaks and I normally only take 30 mins of my hour lunch. So my work probably gets more out of me than I get paid for.
My wages weren't docked my commission was and it was done on a 6 month basis so at 25% if you were late 4 times in 6 months no commission.First Date 08/11/2008, Moved In Together 01/06/2009, Engaged 01/01/10, Wedding Day 27/04/2013, Baby Moshie due 29/06/2019 :T0

You really don't have to justify yourself to me, as I'm not the one who could be firing you for poor punctuality as happened in the OP.
If you have discussed the issues with your boss and he is happy with occasional lateness due to the fact that you are otherwise flexible all well and good. But if your boss is not happy, or wants a reason to terminate your employment, persistent lateness will be one such reason irrespective of whether this was due to problems with public transport. And a lot of jobs cannot be done properly if the employee is late - eg if you are a keyholder opening a store, a receptionist in a service industry or if there are minimum staffing levels so the person on the shift before you can't leave until you turn up - so even 2 or 3 minutes late will be a good business reason to terminate and not just a boss being arsy.0

unfortuatlly some companies dont accept any excuses for being late.
one time i was late simply because i couldn't get into the building to start my shift.
i actually arrived in plenty of time but stood outside ringing the bell for 30 mins before being let in.
another time we had really bad weather (heavy snow) and i was late as i had to cycle in and took me alot longer than usual. I actually gave myself twice as long to get there, but still ended up 5 mins late.
The worst thing was that the manager was also late because of the snow, but it was an acceptable reason for her, but not for me, even thou she lived much closer than i did and she drove to work.
 Some employers are just unreasonable0

Rally? And what is prove? That you are a power hungry bully :rotfl:
My contracted hours are 09:30 - 17:30, in my first week I was late (train cancelled) so sent an sms to my boss. Got to work at 09:50 and my boss tells me not to bother texting as "we live in London and we all know the transport can be crap so if you are late do not worry"
She has a very happy, relaxed team who are also very hardworking lot. And this is due to her attitude to trivial things.
Sack someone for being 5 minutes late?
 Insane0

IT really has been known to happen and to work back the time after work. Not allowed to send an SMS, have to get off the tube (as if there was a signal) and get a signal and call in!gettingready wrote: »Rally? And what is prove? That you are a power hungry bully :rotfl:

I was late 10 mins once as a bloke came off his motorbike and went across 4 lanes of traffic and went under a bus and everyone looked at my like I had murdered someone but you can get up to leave at 4.58pm and no one say anything! We’ve had to remove your signature. I know it happens and I think this is pretty awful to live in constant stress.
I can email, I can sms but I was told not to - just turn up when I turn up.
Nobody watches the clock either way - if we need to stay late nobody asks as to, we know and stay.
There is no clock at the reception even (!!!!).
Everyone is treated with respect and as adults and people give the same back.0

it does depend alot on the type of job too. When i worked at a supermarket, they only ever had the minimal number of staff they needed, so when someone was late it meant they didn't have enough staff, and wouldn't late some people go home until the other arrived.
whereas, my current job, it doesn't really matter what time i start as long as i do the work0
