I have had a new hard drive installed on my laptop so I need to download Java - absolutely every time I click on 'download free copy of Java' I get 'this page cannot be displayed' has anyone experienced this? I cannot get anywhere with the Java website which is sending me round in circles. I use 64 browser bit if that helps.
I've just tried it on my work computer and strangely enough I get the same message. Anyone aware of any issues?

1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0 -
Thanks but that's the very website I've been trying0

Any different links from http://www.oracle.com/us/technologies/java/overview/index.html ??0

Thanks Paddy will check that one when I get home - currently on my desktop at work (early lunch)0

Oracle bought Sun who made Java, so there may be alternative options on their site. Just speculating.
Just want to check though are you SURE you want to install it? 99% of people don't need it. Of that remaining 1%, 95% probably need it once a month. It used to be big, but has become more and more sidelined. It's also become quite a big malware vector - I generally suggest people uninstall it for security!
If you do manage to find an installer OK, make certain you untick the 'install xyz toolbar' they try to foist upon you.0 -

No, I'm not sure but since the new hard drive has been installed on my laptop I can't play candy crush because I can't see any of the graphics. Sad I know, but I've reached level 421 and don't want to give up now. Someone said I should ensure I have Java.
I know what you're saying though as I've just read Ask Jack's blog on the Guardian website endorsing your advice (thanks for that).0 -
Not sure that's a Java problem, there's also a flash version which doesn't need Java at all FWIW
If you do install Java and it doesn't work, then uninstall it again straight away... and keep your java patched. It won't solve the risk, it'll reduce it a bit.0 -
Yup Java.com site is down (or being upgraded!)
it give you a redirect to here:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html?ssSourceSiteId=splash
use that link to download javaLaters

Paddy, any chance could you give me more detail about the flash version you just mentioned, cheers0
