EDF Fixed Price Tariff 2014

My first ever energy switch was to EDF Fixed Price 2014 which ends 31/03/14
My concern is now whether I should change now to another tariff even though it will cost me more now or wait til nearer the end of this tariff.
With all the scares of the forthcoming hikes its quite concerning.
Anyone any words of wisdom please?

  • I was on the same deal as you and decided to bite the bullet and go for there fixed till 2017 it's going to cost me more now but I'm hoping that I have made the right decision for the long term if the prices go up ? It's like buying shares you never know ? One good thing is its free to swap over to another one if the prices drop which I think they're not going too . You just have to go with your gut feeling . leachy.

If you switch now you'll lose a whole winter on the cheaper rate.
    Your choice.

Yes you are correct that to change now will loose out the cheaper cost of winter 2013/14. But I wonder if the overall savings for EDF 2017 will outweigh this.
Of course EDF are likely to increase cost of EDF 2017 in the very near future

Correct me if I am wrong

Message seems to be to stick with EDF fixed ending in early 2014 - after the winter with high use when the most savings are made

    Thanks everyone else

They can't increase it-it's a fixed rate tariff. They will simply can that tariff. But it's Blue+ Price Promise 2015 that is much more likely to be canned in the near future, as it's a much cheaper tariff than 2017.

That blue + 2015 tariff looks close to the fixed price 2014 one.

The op could do a comparison with their useage and see if that switch now has the effect of extending the fixed 2014 for another year at little or no cost. There's no penalty for leaving the 2014 tariff now.
  • Thanks everyone for your input-decisions decisions. My husband is long term sick and has the heating on loads in winter so I am so dreading these hikes we are told are coming.

I called EDF about this and their advisers personal advice was the same as yours - thanks.
Wait and see what happens next year!

The SC's and unit rates are similar, but it's not as close as it might seem once you factor in the 6% DD discount and the dual fuel discount, which aren't offered on PP March 2015. For me, those two items are worth about £96 pa. I reckon that switching now will add about £125 pa to my annual bill.
Since there are usually a couple of days notice on here before tariffs are pulled, and it takes just a couple of minutes to switch EDF tariffs online via My Account, my plan is to keep my ear close to the ground and only switch to PP April 2015 at the last minute (assuming that it goes well before PP April 2014 ends, which is almost certain).
