Wondering if anyone in my situation or on the tariff itself now would switch to the any other capped tariffs at this point for eg nov 14 npower or even the latest mse recommended 16/17 price freeze tariffs?

Subscribing to thread, as I'm on the same tariff and interested to see what advice is offered :)

considering price hikes are around the corner, look at your current unit prices, and compare them to the current fixed prices, yes they will be higher, but they are 3 to 4 year fixes, if prices rise by 8-10% in the coming weeks (a rough guess) then they rise again next winter, then again the following winter, then long term fixes would seem a no brainer as it covers you for 3 or 4 years at the same rates,
and the best thing about the npower 2017 is its got no exit fees so your free to leave at any point
  • I like the look of the long term fixes, as it seems likely that there will be significant rate rises in the coming months. I would caution against moving away from your current deal however, as in the short term you will have to forego the benefit of the cheaper price deal you are currently on. When you took this deal, you will have been paying a higher price initially, hoping to benefit from not paying higher prices at the end of the fixed term, so why give that away?

Its impossible to say with any certainty that you will be better off either switching early or sitting tight. You would need a crystal ball to see what offers will be around come April next year.

My fixed deal is up this month, and I will be switching to another long term fix, probably Npowers deal to 2017.

I am on the same tariff, but I am going to wait until much nearer April to see what tariffs are available then.

There is over 6 months left to run on this tariff and this is when the main benefits of signing up to a long fixed deal occur, in the final part of the deal.

I would also say that after the coming price rise, there will be a lot of activity in the market, with people panicking and switching, especially as the heating gets turned on and winter sets in. But come the new year, the market will have hit a lull and providers will be offering deals and incentives to get new customers, especially if we have a mild winter or an early spring.

I'm thinking on switching from this tariff onto the first utility fixed v11 may 2015 with cashback. anyone following suit?
  • I'm on the same tariff. Considering a switch to npower's 2017 fix - slightly more expensive for the year but £50 cashback available on Quidco/TCB would even it out.
    ......
  • I'm also on EDF blue and First Utility have come up as slightly cheaper for another year. However, they seem to offer appalling customer service, so am wary about switching to them.

I think I will wait until after Christmas but won't take one of the 'expensive, fixed for a long time' tarriffs, as it seems that you do pay a little extra for the certainty.
