It would be helpful to have a clearer description of the problem. When you have a fully-charged battery and you turn the key, what precisely happens?
    • Nothing - silence
    • Small click like a relay closing
    • Series of loud clicks
    • Starter tries to turn but cannot
    • Starter turns but engine doesn't fire

Each of these are different issues and can have different causes. I would definitely start with the battery (and then a jammed starter) before worrying about things like immobilisers, given that the car has been in storage for a while. A battery which is dead and won't hold a charge will show a lot of these symptoms even after being charged overnight. A new battery (or known good one off another vehicle) is the only way to be sure.

And don't be daft enough to send it to the scrap yard for a little problem.

If you really want to do that PM me and I'll come take it away and give it my daughter lol

You have been asked to explain exactly the responses when turning the key - please do so.

My wifes had an issue, it wasnt the battery either.
However you could have anything from a cable connector broken on the starter motor (this happened on my wifes 03 micra) to a faulty immobiliser etc.

    Help the forum help you.
  • Hi guys sorry for the delay in reply to u r posts, I've tried tapping the starter when trying to start it but nothing happens, when I try to start the car nothing turns I.e. The engine won't crank over the only thing u hear is a small buzz coming from one of the relays beside the fuse box, when I try starting the car I get all ignition lights

I get this sometimes with my micra, I was told about it by a neighbour who's wifes micra has the same problem. Fuel starvation. My car wouldn't start one morning, I'd been using it everyday it just wouldn't start. Kept on pumping the accelerator whilst turning the ignition and after about 7 or 8 times, it eventually started. Not had a problem since.

We've done this is the past too and I read it on a forum, also the bump start helps if it floods. Although in those cases I'm sure we could hear the starter motor.

Sorry to have made the assumption, but is the immobiliser light going off?
  • Yeah the immobiliser light comes on when I get all the ignition lights but nothing turns not even the starter motor.

Have you got a spare key to try and what was the voltage on the battery when you tried it?

If the immobiliser light comes on and stays on, its the old NATS immobiliser and it is not allowing the car to start. If it comes on when you first put the key in the ignition and then goes off, then that's correct and its working.
