Do I actually NEED a landline?

Hi guys
I suppose this is a 'what would you do?' scenario. I currently use the following:-
- BT for my landline (approx £15 per month including calls);
- O2 for my mobile (PAYG - approx £10 every 2 months); and
- Sky for my internet (previously O2 - £9 per month for first 12 months, from November)
Someone recently mentioned Ovivo to me, which would allow me to pay a one-off fee of £20, and nothing else, ever (as long as I stick to the usage limits, which includes 500mb of data). This got me thinking...
I currently use a laptop for my internet. Does anyone see any problem with me ditching the laptop and landline completely, and buying a decent (second-hand
) big-screen mobile which could double-up as a phone and internet provider? Even if I decided that the basic 500mb of data wasn't enough for me, Ovivo's so-called 'Ibis' package would still only set me back £7.50 for 750mb of data and increased call allowance.
I hope the above makes sense. I am very much of a novice when it comes to these things, and would appreciate any comments. I am so tight that I wake up in the middle of the night to check whether I have lost any sleep, so the thought of ditching the landline is most appealing to me.
Please let me know your thoughts.

Do you think 500MB of data would be enough? If not then how much do you need? What do you do with your internet?1

Been thinking along the same lines myself (pardon the pun).
Paying those venal thieves for a landline breaks my heart.
There is no competition for landlines, they've got us by the knackers.
Between myself and my wife we are paying £100 pcm for comms, which is more than gas and leccy.
I think we are all being ripped off and yes I agree the future is definitely towards your way of thinking.1 -
If you need over ~ 15GB a month then you will need either VM cable or a phone line based connection. Satellite and mobile phone based connections will all work out more expensive. The only exception to that which I'm aware of would be a pure fibre connection but home FTTP is pretty rare.1

What about 3? Unlimited data.1 -
Thanks for everyone's replies so far.
In all honesty, I know that I will need to cut down considerably on my internet usage in order to qualify for Ovido's 500mb-limit package, which I will be committed to doing. I spend too much time on the internet as it is, so I have no qualms about cutting back.
My favourite website is probably Youtube. Just to give me an idea, how much video time would 500mb get me?

It's one thing to have Ovivo as a backup or for a rarely used device, but having to view their ads every 2 minutes on your main internet connection strikes me as being a particularly miserable experience.1

Ooh, I thought it was every 10 minutes. Still, who ever said money-saving was easy? I'm game for some misery.0

A 10 minute clip will be about 12-15mb. You'll be needed to ration yourself quite carefully with a 500mb a month limit1 -
Thanks Babs, that actually sounds alright to me. I might start a revolution to consign the landline to history.0

My phone just gets the weather and i check emails and a few webpages every now and then and manage over 100mb of data a month.
500mb as your main connection will be used in no time. Do you watch youtube clips or use a site that has lots of photo's?
Vodafone tried selling me a dongle with a whopping 4GB a month limit. I said my one daughter alone has done over 8GB just watching youtube.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...1
