    different number.

Did you reboot after the change? If so, unless anyone else has any bright ideas, try a system restore.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

If you have zone alarm, you don't need the windows firewall as well.
    try switching that off.

As this 'computer person' who tried to install it for you was unsuccessful, download the full User Manual linked in this post reset the router and start again following the instructions.

The router was installed properly as far as i could tell, it was the other problems i am trying to overcome. Something is obviously out kilter but will reset & start again.

Another thing is driving me mad. I have disconnected the router & am using the pc with my usb cable. I can access this forum in normal mode using IE but still cannot do it using firefox. Anyone with some answers would be gratefully received

If it had been installed correctly, it would have worked OK on the following day!

Get it working with IE first and then sort out Firefox as some routers can be fussy about browsers used during set-up.
