Car serviced, engine flush was used with out consent, now not sounding quite right

6 weeks ago I dropped my car at the garage near work to have a service down

I supplied, the oil (engine and gearbox) filters and sparks

I picked the car at the end of work

spotted the engine flush on the bill, questioned it but paid up

few days later still not happy about the flush, rang him and told him I was not happy about it, and I have been told, I would said under no conditions to use a flushing additive ever.

to be safe I swapped the oil again a week later my self.

5 weeks later, this engine is not sounding quite right, not bad but not 100%, the temps have now dropped as winter coming, start up is a bit rougher than I would expect.

I take it back, says somthing is not right, he checks it during the day, runs it up to temprature, I collect it, he says there's nothing wrong, he can hear the fuel injectors but nothing is wrong.

I'm not sure what "consent" you were expecting.
Should the garage have called you up about every step of their process?

What did you take it to the garage for (since you didn't need them to supply any products and you appear to be capable of changing the oil yourself)?
Have you taken the car to another garage and asked them to check it?
When was the oil last changed (in terms of months and miles)?
    What car is it?
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?

Yep, they normally bung a bit on the parts to make extra profit but as the OP provided everything they had to get resourceful.

Was it a member of the 'Good Garage Scheme' by any chance? These will usually put in Forte Fuel system cleaner and Oil Flush unless you ask otherwise. And that's because Forte lubricants owns/runs the national con that is the Good Garage Scheme - nothing at all to do with good quality services and everything to do with marketing and selling.

4 year old suzuki swift 1.3 petrol

my old mans car (he had from new), I knew I was buying it off him for the last year so have driven this car very regularly and know how it sounds

has been serviced on the dot, main dealer service 1st 3 years, dads trusted mate did the 4th year.

intervals stuck too, serviced in Feb 52k by dads mate

And then serviced by the garage in question in Sep at 60k

my car before this was the suzuki Ignis with the exact same M13A 1.3 VVT engine

the reason I had it done by a garage and not DIY is the gearbox oil is a total pita to gain access to the fill plug with out a ramp.

Is a gearbox oil change specified on the 4 year service?

Nah, personal thing I always do when I get a new car.

It something that tends to get ignored like cam belts.

It may be "way better", but it's not to the Suzuki engine specs. They recommend 10W-40 up to 20W-50.

Try putting the recommended oil in and see if that helps.

Its a shock to find someone that wants the gearbox oil changed. Well done you.

They may have charged for it but never used any, But they cannot say that without dropping themselve in it.
