Ah, a smaller budget than i realised.

Fuel is likely to be your biggest cost if you find 2nd hand tyres and get friends or family to help with oil changes and suchlike.

The mate i sold my mk3 Mondy too bought a CR-V diesel a year ago and he got 40-42 mpg when he bought. I did a service on it and put in the correct 5w30 Mobil Super 5w30 B5 fuel economy oil and some injector cleaner.

He also stopped using Tesco diesel as doing so had improved the economy in the Mondeo.

He told me last month that he was now regularly getting over 45mpg with one long trip at 60 odd returning 51mpg. These figures are from the onboard computer so may be slightly higher than actual but they show an improvement.

I wouldn't be surprised if you got less than 40mpg in the Rav4.

So i would think you could find a fuel bill increase of roughly 30%.

Work out what you spend now then adjust accordingly.

If you get friends and family to do your oil changes and use EuroCarParts for the filters and check for special offers in Halfords on the oil you need you can get an oio chsnge price down to £30 or £40 easily, £10/15 for an airfilter every other oil change snd maybe a fuel filter every two years and do everything else when it needs done and off you go.

Don' think i have spent more than £250 on all the servicing on my V50 diesel in just over 2 years and probably 50k miles or more.

I have done all the work on the wifes Clio apart from the cambelt, waterpump, multibelt, fuel filter(as it is inside the wheelarch liner and one set of brakes all round a couple of years ago which i had done at a garage at one time. Wife has put almost 80k on that car. Lost count of the number of oil changes and filter changes i have done on it usually do it every 6 or 7k.

Like you that car sill either go next year or will get some work done to get it back to as new and kept for the kids to learn to drive in.

One thing a mk3 Clio dci is a bit bigger than a mk2 and might just be big enough for you.

Due to the heavy engine and solid build of the mk3 it is like a little tractor in the snow.

Every bit as stable and capable as my V50 with winter tyres to be honest. A real eye opener.
