We have a shiny new Community/Forum twitter account for you to follow for all things community, debate and more. You might recognise the great buttergate and work romance discussions from here plus there'll be lots more from other boards and other stuff too.

Now, we have asked MSE Andrea for further information on the thread but she hasn't responded. Primarily, we are concerned with our username & posts being reproduced on Twitter without being advised.

More interesting, however, would be a reply to this point:

T&Cs are T&Cs

Posting on MSE you agree to your post text appearing with your username. MSE may republish your post text.

But you haven't agreed to your post text being republished with your username. Nor have you agreed to MSE granting republishing rights to third parties.

Once republished to Twitter, I expect Twitter also have a clause that they can republish content.

MSE T&C do not say that you agree to third parties republishing your post text.

MSE republishing to a third party whose T&Cs infer that MSE grant them the right to republish violates the MSE T&Cs

So ... any chance of an official response, team?

    Here are the Twitter T&C

You agree that this license includes the right for Twitter to provide, promote, and improve the Services and to make Content submitted to or through the Services available to other companies, organizations or individuals who partner with Twitter for the syndication, broadcast, distribution or publication of such Content on other media and services, subject to our terms and conditions for such Content use.

Such additional uses by Twitter, or other companies, organizations or individuals who partner with Twitter, may be made with no compensation paid to you with respect to the Content that you submit, post, transmit or otherwise make available through the Services.

How is the MSE users copyright affected if MSE have granted Twitter the use of the data in accordance with their T&C which allows them to use it, and sub licence it further, with no compensation? The copyright holder has not granted MSE any right to sub licence.

As far as I know it can't be deleted. You can delete all of your posts - but if anyone has quoted you, you will have to ask them to delete those. Then you just stop using your account.

I'm still trying to understand the problem that this thread and the others are talking about. By posting, you give ownership and copyright of whatever you write in those posts to MSE. Why is it a problem that your post may then appear elsewhere with your username, unless your username is your actual name? Although even then - this site is able to be viewed by anyone at anytime so your post is already linked with your username, sometimes with photographs of the actual user as an avatar, for anyone to see :undecided

    Neither do I.

Not exactly. But by posting here you do grant MSE a non-exclusive right to reproduce your posts. What's more, this site is indexed by google, so anything you write here may be automatically included in google's search results.
Why is it a problem that your post may then appear elsewhere with your username, unless your username is your actual name?

The mind boggles. Of course, if you used your actual name as your username you're either very brave of completely stupid.

I guess this from Grabbit can be added here as well: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4789042

That thread was locked without concerns really being addressed, and I stand by what I said.

I never visit that board myself, but yes I do find it quite outrageous what MSE are doing.

I post competitions on the competition forum & have had several of my comps tweeted on twitter

It does not bother me if it gets the competition board more exposure then that's a good thing

If you post anything on the internet it is out there for everyone to have access to unless you are posting on a closed forum just for people who are members which is very rare to find them.

MSE is very much open to anyone who has access to the internet

I rarely visit other boards other than grabbit, so I was annoyed that the thread was locked without any debate on there.

    Pretty poor really.
