    Dear oh dear.

OP...do you have a death wish???

Coming on a forum and saying [in essence] 'my dog isn't worth £52' is asking to be flamed, and flamed big-time!!!

I don't think that is what was said at all.. was it?

My son was stranded at a friends house as the bus didn't turn up.. if the taxi I ordered sent an invoice for £1,000 should I be happy based on the fact that I think my son is worth more?

I do agree the OP needs to pay this, but that ridiculous post is unwarranted.

I know nothing of these devices called 'dogs' of which you speak, but:

Given this is moneysavingexpert - on what basis is the OP required to pay this?
  • I would write back requesting breakdown of costs.

but also pointing out that costs to collect and drop off should be removed as they did not do this action as it was done via a member of public.
they are charging for services provided to get your dog back to you, as such your entitled to dispute the costs to which a service was not provided in its entirety.

Probably because the Control of Dogs Order 1992 states that all dogs must wear a collar and identity tag in a public place.

Dog wardens can enforce this law and fines of up to £5000 can be given by the Courts for an offence.

    Looks like £52 is a bargain. :D

We'll looks like most people think its a reasonable charge.

As stated by OP I was really only addressing the issue that I am being charged for services not received.

As it was my dog was taken From outside my house by a member of the public that thought it was my neighbours and returned it to them.

I don't mind paying but I feed a bit shortchanged paying for services not received.

In which case, as suggested earlier, ask for a breakdown of the fee being charged.

However, you mention the word fine in both the title to the thread and in the original post.

If it really is a fine, then there is a deterrent element and there is no need for the sum to bear any relationship to the cost of the service provided.

A few weeks ago my daughters found a dog sat at our back gate, had a collar but no tag, we live in a cul-d-sac they knew it did'nt belong to anyone there. 2 of them popped our dogs lead on and walked a few streets another daughter had a drive round to see if she could see anyone with an empty lead searching they in total spent 2 hours doing the above and by this time it was around 9pm. They called the dog warden and had to leave a voicemail, in the end borrowed a crate from neighbours fed watered and cared through the night for a howling dog, got up in the morning drove it to the dog pound, dog got scanned owners located, elderly couple with no transport, dog warden asked daughters if they minded dropping the dog off as close to our home....One of my daughters bumped into owner week later..they had recieved a bill from the dog warden for £57 ???? What for he did'nt do anything!

As stated by others posters, it is a fine, not a charge for services.

It's there as a deterrent the same way as a speeding fine. It doesn't 'cost' £60 in services if someone drives at 35mph in a 30mph zone but it should deter you from doing so.
