    Hi All,

I am currently in a similar situaltion with my girl. She has around £7000 worth of debt owing to different companies.

For the larger loans we wrote letters to reduce the monthly repayments which they were happy to do.

As I had a good credit rating I applied for a couple of credit cards with long purchase and balance transfer periods on them to take care of the smaller debts. We also wrote letters asking for a full and final settlement figure. If we didn't like their offer we would negotiate this and pay it off in large chunks using the credit cards.

She is still in debt but is a lot better off and is not stressing about it at all now. The future is looking a lot brighter.:D

True, but then she is paying her wages into my account, gets her student loan paid into my account and I'll give her money when she needs it.

There is a little thing called 'TRUST' in a relationship, let me no when you find it ;)

This sounds like a great idea for now - gives you the security that the bills in your name etc will be paid. Good luck - let us know how it all goes.

    Update.

Just over 1 year on things have been smooth runnings. No hastle now from anyone. The calls stopped, after a short while..
Been making regular payments this past year to the CCCS who as i've stated before were / are fantastic!
She has started an on line course to better herself job wise.To hopefully pay off her debt faster when she becomes qualified.
We have a another little girl, 4 months old now.

The only downside is, i am about to be made redundant in January, so we will see what happens then!

I don't know whether to be happy or sad!

Yes, I do. Happy! Well done on surviving a year of a DMP. Well done on your relationship surviving a problem...and sticking together through thick and thin.

And the upside to your impending job situation is that you know we will be here to support you if you need it.. Thanks for the update

It is really nice to hear from people who take advice then go off to work through it. Well done on sticking together. Ref the redundancy, at least know this far ahead means that you can start trimming your sails NOW rather than only getting a few weeks notice. Could you look at retraining as well, if it would better your job chances?
