Another idea which I use is Tilly Tidies (TTs) where you round down your bank account, no matter how little it is - any odd amount even if it's just 1p!
I made a TT yesterday of £3.49 - it's not much but it's a bit extra on top of the regular SO overpayments I make.

I did used to do Tilly tidies, but this month, I worked out all bills and left myself a certain amount of money and transferred the rest to the ISA, so effectively I did a big tilly tidy at the beginning of the month. It has worked out quite well as it has stopped me using my debit card as I know the money isn't as easily accessible.
My son got me one of these for Christmas, I'm trying to do the 52 week challenge in it, but my sister shared with me her nifty trick with a hacksaw to "remove" the top without breaking the whole pot. She then glues the top back onto hers - she's had two trips to NY from re-using her pot this way!
Like your thread and your approach - I'm aiming for 2020 MF, around the same time as you, so I wish you well and will follow with interest!
That's a good idea, thanks, and I'll hunt out your diary if you have one?0 -
Sent another £50 to the mortgage this morning. Some good motivational figures to work on from the spreadsheet are as follows
- £103.59 to get the total mortgage figure under 90k
- £757.24 to get the big mortgage to start with a £69k
- Just said goodbye to September 2031 with that OP
Also a competition prize arrived this morning, just a book but brightens the mood a lot.0 -
£133.61 paid to the mortgage this morning. Random amount I know, but takes the total mortgage owed to under 90k :j
Just another £623.63 to take the larger mortgage under 70 and start with a 69. Conscious effort to achieve this by the end of Feb as we have no CT next month so am aiming to squirrel that away.
Total OP for January have been £233.61 which I think is good for the leanest month of the year.0 -
i'm waiting for payday to make my largish mortgage OP! it can't come quickly enoughMortgage at 01.01.14 £119,481.83:eek: today £0 Emergency fund £5.5/5.5k & £200/200 cash.:jWeight 24/02/19 14st 7lb now 11st 12lb determined to stop defining myself by my mistakes. With the regular payment for Feb we need to OP by £365 to see the balance start with a 6. That's the focus for Feb.
I started this off with £3 from selling a large stuffed animal that dd didn't want any longer. A little bit more room in my house.0 -
You are doing brilliantly Yukki.....well done!!:T:T:TMortgage 12.12.12 £55842 12.12.13 £42716 14.12.14 £28837 13.12.15 £25913
Mortgage OP £50/£600 House Fund £420/£50000 -
Payday is tomorrow, and I have been working out where I can squirrel the £365 from. The monthly mortgage payment doesn't go out until the 5th, so it wont be until then that I see the difference, but I *think* I can almost make it up by
£147 CT not due to be paid Feb
£80 DD rent
£138 left to find. I haven't had my payslip yet this month despite it being so close to payday so will see what that's like to perhaps slice some off from there.0 -

Hi Norfolkdream If you are who I think you are then it's great to see you back. If you're not then I'll have to keep thinking but it's great to see you back :rotfl:
I OP's £227 this morning from CT and rent, so just £138 to OP to see the figure start with a £69k.
Had a bit of a work shock this week, can't say too much about it, but it's making me re-evaluate and think about the future a little bit.0 -
Hello Yukkibear
Just been catching up with your diary, I've not been on this site much in the past few years, but I do remember you from before and you were very inspiring indeed, so if anyone can reduce your mortgage down, you can. We paid ours off and it was a wonderful feeling. We were lucky in that we had a mortgage where we could overpay as much as we wanted with no penalties. Anyway, I've decided I am "wasting" far too much money again on rubbish really and spending without even really thinking about it, so I decided to try to make it part of my day or even week, to check out this site to try to keep me focussed. Hope all is well with you and your family, I think the last time we "spoke" you about to get married, so hope all went well.
