  • Its already mentioned this morning on the news that this is the start of the suppliers negating Ed Millibands threat of a price freeze by huge rises over the next two years before a Labour or Labour/Libdem alliance gets voted in.

    Can I ask why?
  • Hi,

although there would've been the usual pre winter increases, they might be a bit bigger now to mitigate any price freeze in the future.

I think Ed Milliband has shot himself in the foot, he'll find out at next election.
  • Can I ask why?

They usually are. I can not remember the last time another company came out first.

    Hi,

I hope not as I always vote for the labor party.:D

How about SP in 2010 and 2011, and SSE last year and this year?!

The only time BG were first out of the blocks in the last 4 years was to LOWER prices in feb 2012.

  • How odd maybe british gas was the first one I heard about in the previous years. Only way I can explain it.
  • What choice do energy firms have when you look at the reasons why?

SSE said that for a typical dual-fuel customer, wholesale energy prices had gone up 4%, paying to use delivery networks was 10% more expensive, and government levies were 13% higher.

We need to face it folks the era of cheap fuel is over, gone we are in a world market where the price we pay for fuel is better than average compared to our Euro neighbours.
