If you change your supplier, using Moneysupermarket or similar, to get a cheaper deal and they then increase prices a few days afterwards, will you be in time to beat any price rise or does it take 3-4 weeks for the changeover to be actioned ?

    Energy price increase notification

We’ve worked hard to keep prices at their current level and delay an increase for as long as possible, but unfortunately we will have to increase the price of EquiPower and EquiGas. You can find the new prices for your area and tariff type here.

Ebico dont buy from the grid but have a cushy tie in SSE...

i wonder sometimes, if they are a cheap version of SSE, a bit like Plusnet is BT

    Lol, yeah. :T

All I can picture in my head is them all sitting round a big table drawing straws as to who goes first, then they all console SSE saying, "Don't worry bud, we'll all be following you soon" and patting them on the back.

There should be a cartoon! :rotfl:

They take it in turns to go first. It's fairer that way :rotfl:

Ebico would be struggling to buy from the grid, given the fact they don't even hold an Ofgem licence. ;)

LABOUR leader Ed Miliband has announced the first of his promised hikes in the price of gas and electricity.
The inaugural increase, in conjunction with SSE, is a robust 8.2%.
Miliband said: “We made a promise and we have delivered.
“I want to thank SSE for acting so promptly. They understood every word I said in my excellent speech.
“They have taken an early lead in the ‘race to the cap’. Well done.”

Interesting. Last year's SSE rise was 9.6%. Care to tell us which political figure was to blame for that one? In fact, if we were to adopt the same thinking as the anti-Milliband lobby, maybe him putting a spotlight on this horrible industry has caused the suppliers to actually reduce the previously planned increases?

Also however worth asking how much of todays increase is down to the eco levies Miliband introduced when he was part of the energy department under the last government. It was noticeable that his announcement didn't offer to do anything about the part of energy bills governments have most control over - taxes and other levies! What he wants is the energy co's to cut their 5% margin rather than Govt losing part of what it gets which starts with the 5% VAT amount, and gets topped up with all the eco provisions.

  • what would be intresting is for those who are actually on SSE variable deals at the moment, is for them to check their old tariffs, and compare them with the new unit prices when they get the letters through the door (price hike of 8.2%) and actually see if its 8.2% or if indeed its a Much higher figure,

I suspect it will be a lot higher than 8.2% for most, and it wouldn't surprise me if its near double the 8.2%
