Sadly my Nottingham pub crawl nights followed by a curry in the Mogul -e-Azam are long gone!

    What James blunts.

    Why a sudden rise?

As they will all follow suite then it's like a cartel

Just in case Labour win the election and Green Ed implements his price freeze.

Yes, there are upward pressures on energy bills, and that makes life difficult for people, including those in fuel poverty, but it is right that we go down the low-carbon energy route.”

    E Milibean. Jan 2010

Green taxes and other levies add over £100 to the average energy bill, these charges should be part of general taxation.

  • To be fair to David's less impressive brother, a price increase like this tends to happen just before every Winter so I really can't see the correlation between Ed's pledge and this increase. Basically industry shills attempting to divert attention away imo.

Bit annoying since this likely means Ebico prise rises too (they wholesale from SSE), just as winter is starting. :(

EDIT: Wow, the increase is over 10% for gas. I really wish I had any idea how much gas I'll use this winter (only moved in in May) so I could switch to a cheaper provider.

    Energy price increase notification

We’ve worked hard to keep prices at their current level and delay an increase for as long as possible, but unfortunately we will have to increase the price of EquiPower and EquiGas. You can find the new prices for your area and tariff type here.

I've long held the belief that Ebico's business plan relies on some of their punters paying way more than they have to. In that respect alone, they are not that different to the Big 6. But at least most of these 'overpayments' go to the less advantaged (I hope so anyway but there is no real measure of this) and not shareholders.

Yeah I was worried when I saw no date relating to the increase. It does look like they've increased them with immediate effect, which is even worse. :(

Weird no date on their web page but FB says:

Ebico Ltd Hi Trisha, the new prices will take effect from 15th November 2013. Also all customer will receive a letter notification with all details this week.

Legally they have to give notice
  • I always thought Ebico announced price increases a while after their wholesaler announced theirs? Has there been a change to their supply agreements?
