Tenant is now letting house get dirty

Now play nicely children!
I totally get the OP. Not everyone becomes a landlord/lady as a business move. I let out my mother's house to pay her nursing home bills. For that reason, it was a good move, but personally, it was agony! For ages, I had to totally avoid the house - I couldn't even drive past it without feeling horribly uncomfortable that total strangers were doing god-knows-what in "my mum's" house.
But I got used to it and I had a brilliant agent who took over everything and kept me constantly reassured that nothing terrible was going on inside the house!
My mum died 2 years ago and it's only now that I have felt able to put the house up for sale. For some people of course, a house is just a collection of bricks-and-mortar, but for others, it's an important collection of cherished memories.
Maybe the OP just needed advice and a bit of time to adjust to the weirdness (because that is how it feels) of letting out a family home. I suspect for the OP, it's possibly too early to sell the house and say goodbye to it forever.
There is no easy answer for the OP, other than not to make any sudden decisions. Good luck with it all.0 -
OP, unfortunately the house that you still have attachment to is now your business asset, not a family home. I'm afraid you have to treat it as such.
If you'd bought it with the purpose of letting it out, you wouldn't be feeling this way, I'm sure.0 -
In short if you don't like your current tenant, start serving notices and prepare to evict them.
As a landlord you don't have any control on how a tenant chooses to live.
If you are aware of illegal activity report it. If your tenants start using the doors for firewood, ripping out the copper to sell to a scrappy and deliberately flooding the property then serve notices to evict them and prepare to sue or prosecute for criminal damage if they don't fix things before you re-gain possession of the property.0 -
Thankfully, this forum does have an 'ignore poster' function. Probably got invented for john539 specifically.
There would be so many on ignore that posts wouldn't make sense, hmmm some don't anyway, but I am sure you know what I mean :-/Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0 -

Yes, somebody has to keep your sort under control, your posts are complete tosh.
I think you will find a complete definition of rent is a bit more subtle.
I suggest you go back to school, college, university, get educated proper.
Go get a proper dictionary. :T :rotfl:0 -

See... a new paragraph.....
I will take note of all of you who say I have to let go and realise that it is a rented property now and people do have a right to live as they like.
I truly have no problems with anyone of any nationality living in the house or I wouldn't have accepted them as tenants in the first place. I like the guy but have not met his new wife.
I do now realise however that I have a real problem letting go of this house to other people, so maybe I am not cut out to be a landlord. I will not say a word to him on Friday but I will ask the LA when they will be next doing their inspection and wait with interest to see what they report back to me.
As far as the deposit and cleaning at the end of the tenancy is concerned, yes it is written in that it must be left in the condition it was found and yes the deposit is kept in the correct way so I ought to really step back but I wondered if a friendly approach would be preferable rather than just saying to myself "renting the property is just not for me" and deciding to give them the required notice now and sell up which is what my hubby wanted to do in the first place.
Thanks for all of you for putting me in my place, you have all given me the advice I asked for so I will now let the LA do what I pay them for.
Humility is a pretty impressive sight, rarely seen.0 -
