The £1.53 Limit

I think it would be good to have the limit increased/scrapped altogether, certainly for purchase comps.
I'm one of those people who detest shopping and just grab what I need and go so unless I know beforehand about a different product or brand that is running a comp, I'll end up missing them. Plus not all comps are advertised on the products, like the recent Douwe Egberts one.
At the end of the day, we are all big boys and girls and can pick and choose what comps we want to enter whether they are free or not.£2019 in 2019 challenge:£50/2019

i do see both sides of this i just dont like the thought of the board being overrun with silly comps saying buy a house win some furniture which would just be ridiculousWhat goes around-comes around0

i would love to see the limits raised as already said were all big girls and boys and can choose if we wish to enter a paying comp that goes over the limts, i do my best to use the forum that goes over the limits but not had any comps over the £1.53 limit for a bit, http://textcompers.proboards.com/
i would have posted the lottery one that cornishpasty posted and was taken off as i told her about it but i dare not post or would have got jumped on in main thread ( cornishpasty's a brave one )i hope more peeps come on board to debate this matter, yes or no at least we have all had a say which is fair

I would like it to be raised. I have bought lottery tickets for the first time in years and would love to be able off the back of it to have the choice to enter lotto comps. Its not like we are being forced to spend money to enter.0

If you have pay to enter that's gambling and is not money saving (although there is a matched betting section on the forum).
If you have to buy a product to enter in most cases rules apply that do not allow the product to be priced higher to reflect the chance to enter so you are not paying to enter as you are buying a product and the entry is free.A prize promotion might be considered an unlawful lottery if participants are required to pay to enter or to pay for goods at a price that reflects the opportunity to participate0 -
I agree that it shouldn't be raised. This board is about money saving and not gambling money in order to try and win prize (Which is basically what it would be.) A small group wanting it raised, does not a majority make. I say leave it as it is or we'll be overrun and the spirit of the boards will be lost.August-September 2017: Lots of stuff

My personal opinion is that it should be raised for sure, as to there being no limit i'm undecided on that as there are good and bad points on both sides of the argument. I do think that as long as it is as it is at the moment, that needs to be respected until such time as it is changed and not flouted just because the prizes are good or some people may have bought such and such anyway.0

Nothing I can say that aint been said already. But I'd say 'Raise to £2'UEFA: Corrupting Football Since 1954 #CTID0

All good and valid points guys :T
Not sure paying for comps necessarily equals gambling. Some are skill based, as in writing, photography and art. Lottery based ones clearly are gambling, although up to the price rise, that was allowed. Are purchase required ones gambling? Can see two sides to that one.
I agree with robbies_gal about not wanting the forum overrun with lots of paid for comps. I think that would take the forum in a direction most of us wouldn't want it to go. What I'm not sure about though is whether that would happen. It could be that we could ask for rule variations. For example, for skill based comps allowed a higher spend. Perhaps skill based up to £5 and purchase required up to £2.00? Or perhaps make an exception on purchase only comps just for lottery tickets?
Or perhaps if could be worth trialing a free for all with spending limits, to see what difference it might make. What if (after the advents, for obvious reasons) we asked if we could trial this for three months, and then we/MSE could review it. Bear in mind that all the other rules would still apply, so no self-promo, no spamming, and so on.
Personally, I think it's prob worth considering as MSE are not anti those comps being listed, as they allow it elsewhere. But hardly anyone goes there. Is that because people don't want to enter those comps, or because it's too much faff to find them? If they're not wanted, it's fine as it is. But if it's cos it's too much hassle to find them, then that's a shame.
I also take Luckyone's point re housing them in a separate board, if they were allowed here. That could also work. Maybe a spends board would be used more if it sat near the regulars on the main board, and if possible without having to register separately?
