I have just posted up the above thread that breaches MSE £1.53 limit as there are a lot of Lotto comps about at the moment, but bearing in mind a lot of people buy Lotto tickets anyway surely it's better that they know about these.
With inflation rising at an extortion rate shouldn't we have a rise in the £1.53 MSE limit?
I know rules is rules but surely if we're buying ie Lotto tickets anyway we should be able to make up our own minds?

I do agree with you on the limit being raised but what riles me a little bit is that certain comps do actually break the rules as they stand at the minute yet they are being posted and people who are reporting others for other breaches of rules are choosing to ignore that the rules are being broken thus basically being very hypocritical in there actions, these lotto comps that you can't enter with the £1 ticket or need further purchases like newspapers which take them over the limit are in fact against the rules as they stand yet are being allowed and let's face it the Lotto is gambling which for a money saving site isn't really something that should be promoted. It makes no difference to me whether they are posted or not and I couldn't care less but I do find it very hypocritical of people who are jumping on others if they breach rules and reporting them yet are just overlooking certain rule breaches as they see fit .0

I am sure the limit is to do with the cost of premium rate Texts/phone calls rather than products/lotto tickets etc.
I wouldn't report them but if the limit is £1.53 then nothing should be posted above that figure, there shouldn't be a "that looks a good one, post it" variation to the limit.0 -
I totally agree with you Sidsnot
One rule for some & another rule for others never works well as it just causes resentment & a feeling of being below others when in fact we are all the same.

The limit used to be £1.50 and martin then raised this to £1.53 to take into effect the cost of the text costs rising, i have pm'ed mse a few times regarding this matter and answer was always a firm no, haven't asked in a while though so maybe worth a shot again0

Thanks for posting this CP. I was thinking about this last night and was wondering about posting something this morning.
Although 'rules is rules' there are a couple of ways that the comp in your OP could possibly be deemed to be within the current rules:
1. if you've already bought a Lotto ticket for the 5 Oct draw, then you've already spent the £2 to buy it; it's not that you have to spend a further £2 for another ticket to enter this comp.
2. There are several other comps around with the current Lotto promotion which require the purchase of a ticket. If you hadn't yet bought any tickets, but fancied a punt at say 5 comps in various newspapers, radio stations etc which require a valid lotto ticket number, your outlay of £2 would be 40p per comp.
I don't have a strong view on whether the recent posts should/shouldn't be allowed under the rules, but thought it was worth adding the above to the discussion. At the end of the day, it's down to each individual to decide whether to spend cash to enter a comp.0 -

Texts never increased from £1.50 when the VAT went up - they always state £1.50 + 1 message at your standard rate (so that could be classed as £1.65 if you are on 02 and get charged 15p per text like I do)
the calls increased when the VAT went up to 20% -- But these are now £1.54 (watch all the ITV comps and it states £1.54 ... so not sure where the £1.53 limit came from)0 -

Sorry got confused with the phone call comps over the text ones, the call comps went up to £1.53 and there are comps in the postal and text thread for this price, that was when martin raised it to £1.53, i do mainly the post, text and calls and cant recall seeing any costing £1.54, quite a few at £1.53 though.0 -
Anyone know the reason for this rule?
Blu XI am brave, I am bruised
I am who I'm meant to be
I'm not scared to be seen
I make no apology
THIS IS ME!
When you talk down to others it says more about you than them.0 -
Taken from martin's posts:
Free Competitions Only. This is a not a place to advertise competitions you have to pay to enter. I will accept limited cost text message type competitons (though frankly they're usually naff apart from in special circumstances) where they cost up to £1.50 to text to enter, but generally I would say make sure they are free.
He hasn't updated this since it was raised to £1.530
