    I think I would expect a cream coloured house if a cream coloured house was used in the advertising. If it was going to be another colour I would have expected that to have been made clear and I may or may not have proceeded on that basis.

    Painting cream over pink render is far from an ideal solution.

    It'll need redoing every X years, and look ugly as sin if the paint ever flakes.

    Not as ugly as a pink house, friends bought a pink house and did this its fine, and of course all rendered houses need repainting.

    I think you find that on your council planning portal there will be a planning application for the development. You will have been shown something called a materials layout upon reservation which shows you everything from your slate colour, to brick colour, to front door colour and render finish. This document is readily available to look at at any time on the planning portal. If you cant get it online, contact the council and they will give it you. Poor drills for not checking. You cant paint over monocouche render by the way.

    If I liked the house in every other respect, I would roll with it and see how I felt in a year or so.

    Years ago, I came home to find that my wife had purchased a bright yellow Transit van for our business, even though all our sales stuff was blue. I'd never have contemplated purchasing a yellow vehicle, but soon I loved it. People recognised us when we were out in it, and there was never a problem losing it in a car park! I'm sure people gave way to us more too. It was just more fun to own than the standard white item.

    After a year or so you too may have become quite comfortable with being 'the owner of the pink house.' If not, there are brands of monocouche which have their own paints, so the situation may not be beyond recovery.
  • Tell the builders you are unhappy and want it changed to cream. Not painted, stripped and re-rendered because paint will need a lot of maintenance. Mention snagging too.

    If they refuse just reduce your offer by a couple of thousand to cover getting the word done yourself. Don't take any nonsense from them.\\\

  • You're not in Suffolk are you? Lots of houses here are painted 'Suffolk Pink' to Suffolk folk it would be perfectly normal.
  • This all sounds a bit naughty of the builder. We're buying a new build and after reservation had a meeting at the sales office where we were shown detailed plans of our house and boundaries and were told what colour the render would be and the decorative brick layer.

    Also the consumer code for house builders states...

    If a Home is not yet completed, the information must include:
    a brochure or plan showing the layout, appearance and plot position of the Home;
    a list of the Home’s contents;
    the standards to which the
    Home is being built.

    Rebrand it as sunset pink, sounds so much less old-ladylike.
    :heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.
