Is there anything in all her 100 years that this grand old lady hasn't done yet that she would really like to do? I think spending time in the company of those closest to you, doing something special to you is far nicer than any gift. Have a chat with her over a cuppa and find out is my advice.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

How about a manicure or hairdo for her big party? Or some hand-cream or perfume?

Hairdresser? tick - she has her hair done every week!

Manicure - I've never known her not to have beautifully manicured nails (with nail polish matching whatever she's wearing!) But I do like the idea of a bottle of perfume - I know that she likes Versace Bright Crystal!

When MIL was 80 we did her a gin and tonic hamper (didn't want to do clutter as MIL was frantically decluttering - "so there is less for you to do when I die!!") with a lovely glass, a really special gin, posh (fever tree) tonic a lime and a lemon. It went down really well.
  • Trouble is, you're competing with all the children/grandchildren/great grandchildren desperate to know what to get her too.
    I'd favour some foodie treat.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

How lovely to reach 100 and to be surrounded by people who love and care for you. That is a gift in itself that money simply cant buy. This thread is so heart warming :)

The days after everyone goes away again may be a bit of an anti-climax. What about booking afternoon tea with a date a week or so after that? If she's not really fit for that any more, the same kind of date but with you visiting and bringing nice cakes etc.

It also doesn't sound as if she needs any material things. You could simply promise a number of visits for her to look forward to, depending on where you both live.

    There's always a charity donation.

It's a pleasure to be trying to think of something pleasant on here!
