Christmas/birthday present ideas for a 3 year old girl

Options
I have been making a start on a list of presents for our little girl and have got quite a few ideas but would really appreciate any suggestions people might have for things to get her. She turns 3 on New Years Day so there will be 2 lots of gifts given over Xmas/New Year. I think she is still too young to get much use out of the electronic type toys and I am keen to get her more 'traditional' toys, especially as they tend to be cheaper and therefore we can get more 'smaller' presents but any thoughts/suggestions would be hugely appreciated. She doesn't have any TV characters or anything she really likes yet which doesn't help much! I don't plan on getting her loads of things as she will get presents from other family members and I want to put some money by for a trip out when the weather gets warmer.

just had my little girls 3rd birthday - we got her a little watch (she cant tell the time yet but knows the numbers) and a balance bike which she currently seems a bit frightened of :D

Other presents she got off other people and really likes
musical jewellery box and plastic necklaces/bracelets
crafty stuff like paints, beads, pom poms, etc
dressing up stuff - princess/fairy dresses
anything plasticky - looks nasty to me but she loves it :rotfl:

Our three year old loves her mini micro scooter but they can be pretty pricy - Picked up one in the local charity shop that was in good condition and pink! We try to sneak a few small educational toys in too.

Things my 3 year old DD loves.. some expensive, some not.

LeapPad2 - these are about £70 and you buy the games/books etc but I have bought my DD a quite a few educational bits and she loves it. She likes the flash cards the e-books

Anything arty, paper pencils, glitter.. I've just bought a few bits from Baker Ross for her birthday.

Books - Amazon often have some good books on offer

Duplo Lego - again a nice size for a 3 year old and often on offer in Amazon

    Dressing up

    Dolls

    Micro scooter

Music - so any nursery rhyme/party type CD's.

    Hope this helps.

Dressing up clothes - so cloak, shawl, crown, tiara, magic wand and as many colours of pairs of tights as you can afford that she won't outgrow in seconds?
Never underestimate the shock & awe of making your own crown or tiara - starting with cardboard, hair combs (to anchor the tiara, looks better than the plastic alice band) & tinfoil then gluing on fruit pastilles for jewels &/or mint imperials for pearls... (Add a thick layer of varnish to complete!)
  • I definitely recommend a balance bike. My daughter was 4 months of turning 3 at christmas when she got hers and LOVED she it. She's now 4 and has learnt to ride a bike with no stabilisers - I mean we skipped the stabiliser stage. They're fantastic.

Other than that.... a tea set, saucepans, play food, doctors kit, duplo, and the other things others have suggested!

    Hope this helps! :-)

The 'Home corner' has been the best thing ever for my 3 year old. She plays with it daily! I got her a wooden kitchen...bit more expensive but lasts longer! all the pots/pans etc. washing machine, ironing board, cleaning trolly set, hoover etc

She also loves my little ponys :)

My little girl loves those plastic toy animals and dinosaurs, dolls, happyland and fisher price little people. She also adores the kids necklaces, bracelets and rings I bought from Sainsburys and from a boots gift set.

I have got her a hobby horse for her birthday which I'm hoping she'll like. She is quite a girly girl regarding toy preference.
  • Get a big box and get down to the poundshop/poundland and get loads of paints, paintbrushes, glitter, stickers, make a big box that will fill craft time for a few months to come!

Would bath toys be an option?

A Build-A-Bear...if you get one you can build on it in future with more clothes/outfits or add to the build a bear family.

Watching this with interest as we are in a similar situation with a girl turning 3 in January.

We got the micro scooter for her back in the summer as she was stealing other kids in the park and it was definitely a good buy.

I try to choose toys carefully rather than end up with lots of plastic tat. We have a white/black board which she uses daily. Books we tend to rotate from the library. She seems to get bored with doing crafty stuff quite quickly. And she's not very girly - in fact she's big into Spiderman right now.
We Made-it-3 on 28/01/11 with birth of our gorgeous DD.
