Does that sound right for you?
Driving my newly purchased 00-plate 1.6 petrol VW Bora at 70MPH, getting 3400rpm and at 80MPH getting 4000rpm.

Are you sure you're driving it in 6th gear and not 5th?0 -
Are you sure a 2000 1.6 Bora has a 6-speed gearbox? Parkers doesn't seem to think so...reddwarf2002 wrote: »Are you sure you're driving it in 6th gear and not 5th?
The RPM looks plausible (note speed gauge is in kph: 100 kph is 62 mph):

Sounds like it could be about right. Parkers shows the top speed as 119mph which would come in at ~6000rpm.
Shows it as 5 gears. Sounds like it would benefit from a 6th though.0 -
00 plate?
Are you sure it isn't a Delorean and you are doing 88mph?0 -
Yes it is a 5-speed gearbox.
I put £20 of fuel in on Sunday to see how far it gets me for my weekly commute to work (total: 100 miles).
This is normally more than enough for 2004 Skoda 1.9 TDI I've been using temporarily (130 BHP, 6-speed).

I hope it won't come as a massive shock if I suggest the Skoda will be a lot more economical...0

LOL @ that!
No, but I am hoping that I can get through the week with £20. Its not like I'm putting my foot down (i.e. sticking to the limits).
I first thought there was something wrong with the car (as it was so sluggish). Then I realised that the Bora is a heavy car and I've become so used to driving turbo diesels. The Skoda really can shift!

I was thinking of upgrading the engine but I failed to acquire the 1.21 jigga watts of power I needed.
